@Chrissols I think possibly because you called it exactly the same when I did a search the previous threads came up and I found it on about page 4! Perhaps next time we should number the thread?

I have had a dreadful day with DICT8. Very few tasks I could hear and type. Luckily a few on T-Pro, though not too many, but they say it is still the after effects of Christmas/New Year and not lockdown.

Just to go back briefly to WeType, I was chatting with my sister earlier about the typing tests, saying that I have not previously had to type two letters - and one was two full pages of A4! With TPro I think it was only about 4-6 lines long. How long were the tests you did for WeType as I do think possibly they could have used both the letters I typed in the test as clinic letters; they just had to fill in the patient details. A lot of their clinic letters are typed on Word and just emailed across so it is possible that they use applicants for free labour.

@Gally123 yes, will definitely number it next time. I’ve had a really quiet day with Dict8 but as you say, Tpro has been fairly steady. As with WeType, I had to type 3!! And yes, typed as clinic letters at their request then emailed to them.......seems like they are on a good number

Hello again everyone! Thank goodness you tagged me @Gally123 - I'm ever so grateful. I tried to find this new thread earlier on today but couldn't, so had a minor panic I'd never catch up with you all again!

I've had a pitiful day with Dict8 - well under 100 lines! Trawling the internet again in desperation, I did find a transcription company I haven't heard of before called Medscribe. Their website says they are looking for UK based medical transcribers/medical secretaries across all specialties with at least five years under their belt. As usual, no clue given on their website as to how much they pay their transcribers or how flexibly you can work. I'm wondering if it's worth a punt.

@Poppy379 - thanks for info on Medscribe, just had a quick and they ask for a reference, which might be difficult. Will have to have a think about it.

I have typed about 100 lines as well I think today.

Hello everyone! Blimey have just found the last link then another one starts! Brilliant! I thought it had vanished completely then found the short version of about 5 messages in July last year. Just finished catching up.with the other. Glad this is still going! Relieved to know im not the only one not getting any work from Dict8 (not that I want everyone else to not have any) but it makes me realise dict8 are still strugglng. It had picked up for a month or so for me around October then it went quiet again. I wonder if the secretaries have gone to work from home again due to this new lockdown as im refreshing, refreshing again to no avail. @Gally123 very interesting about WeType. I tried to register with them about a year ago. I actually have Express Scribe. It was for a particular Consultant in my field. The woman sent 6 letters all extremely shocking but having typed this specialty for many years, I could fathom out what was dictated other than a couple of words which to me was not audible to anyone. She said if they are any good the work would be for this particular doctor. I sent them back and got an email saying they were very good but the doctor was very particular and wanted 100% so I hadn't made the grade but to apply again at a later date just in case anything else came up. I think they are swindlers and reading what you put makes me think that is exactly what they do, use people to type the letters they cant understand or get rid of backlogs. Anyway good to see this thread again, didnt realise it stopped after so many entries @Chrissols great that youve kept this thread going yet again Smile

.......also just a quick note OutSec are advertising for transcribers in certain medical fields if they are suitable to anyone in this thread

Hi all - thanks @Gally123 for the heads-up. Crap day for me too I found Sterling Transcription when I was having a wonder round the internet today not sure if that is any good. Personally I think any decent transcribing company should supply the software for free if they want you working for them and all that is required of the typist is to login and type - if I was getting software I would set up my own service.

Report
Gally123 · 13/01/2021 20:41

@Meha5 - yes I agree a company should provide the software, as I am sure they do for the doctors to dictate. It must be a cost cutting exercise. Be interested to hear how you get on with Sterling Transcription as the website looks familiar and I am not sure if that is the company that sent me a legal typing test, but it might have been someone with a similar looking website as I don't recognise the name.
@carosel2 - 6 letters for a typing test is taking the p*ss I think! Thanks for the mention of OutSec - will look into it.

@Gally123 - yes I know but they werent very long letters, but still a kick in the teeth when you think you've done well - good luck with OutSec though, I think they may need a reference, but not sure one can oblige when being self employed for so long!

I've been thinking about doing some transcribing - what are the kind of rates paid?

I wonder if it's quiet because of people like me coming on board due to financial difficulties from COVID?

@umpteennamechanges rates of pay vary from per line/per character/per minutes, but not usually great with any of them. You will need experience in certain medical specialties, but I don't think many are recruiting at the moment due to the lack of work with lock-down

Hi all, I've worked with dict8 since 2005, never had a pay rise, have any of you?

Report
danblack87 · 14/01/2021 15:57

@umpteennamechanges: I don't think the work is reduced to people coming onboard - they haven't been coming onboard as Dict8 have not recruited for awhile. However, if you have the experience apply anyway, and they will certainly get back to you I am sure.
