Are older ipads any good?

DD is desperate for an iPad, she mainly wants to use it to be able to make designs in Pro Create - she has it on her iPhone but finds she is being restricted by the smaller screen. Her birthday is coming up and I'd like to get her one if possible but there is no chance I can afford a new one. I'm looking at second hand on CEX (I'd rather buy from somewhere like that so I have some consumer rights rather than buying from ebay), my price range seems to limit me to an iPad mini 1st gen. Are these any good for what she wants or would it just be a waste of money? I don't really do Apple so haven't got a clue (she only has an iPhone as it is a hand me down from my sister!)

A lot of apps don't work on the older ones unfortunately, never heard of pro create though so not sure it it will work.

They are not great, as websites before more complicated they are not powerful enough and they become increasingly slow on the web.

What is your budget?
Apple sell refurbished iPads but they can still be pricey.

My sister has a mini and I don’t find it any better than using my phone , the screen seems noticeably smaller than my iPad so probably better off waiting to get an iPad .

I have a first gen iPad mini and I can no longer have lots of apps on it as the software is too old. I would avoid!

Thanks all, that's what I was afraid of. Back to telling her it isn't going to happen!

I have the 1st iPad Mini: more and more apps stop working on it.
I now use it for iplayer, Pinterest, kindle, and (at a push) homeschooling with websites.

Would strongly recommend against spending your money on one this old!
