Good and cheaper alternatives to iPad and Apple pencil.

I'm resigning myself to at least the next term of teaching remotely, and I think a tablet with pencil will help with responding/marking work, demonstrating to the children in a way they can see easily and ease of video calling.

An iPad air, with pencil and keyboard, comes to nearly a grand! The non-Air plus earlier gen pencil and earlier gen keyboard is around £700.

Are there any other alternatives? I already have a laptop and an iphone.

Thanks @Movinghouse2015

If the price is similar, think I may as well go for ipad, given I already have an iphone.

Samsung galaxy s6 lite tablet.
Mine is on contract, £15 ish a month, with 2 gig of data
Comes with the app PENUP where people have done some awesome drawings.
Replacement pens are less than a tenner on ebay
The tablet is magnetic on one side, to store the pen
It has done everything I need.
I like it. I would recommend.

Probably a stupid question but is there no way you can convince your employer to pay for this? Can you put together a business case for it?

The Surface Pro is amazing. Dd2 has a Surface Go which is much cheaper and absolutely fine (she does pen enabled online).

Her school recommend the Microsoft Pro/Go over the iPad.

I've bought the house an iPad and pencil with the proviso that the person needing it for work/school gets the first preference. DP and I both teach and it has been impossible to mark some work online on a laptop, especially him and A level physics equations. It has revolutionised my BTEC marking! Our Dds can use it too for lessons if needed but we get it in the evenings to mark work. The only thing that pisses me off is that we have no spent around £1300 since March to be able to teach from home Hmm
