What the actual fuck

I've name changed because this is incredibly outing.

After ongoing back problems, I had surgery Monday.

Anyway... I got up today for a shower and DP said you look really small. I had a look in the mirror and definitely looked shorter.

Before the operation I was 5 foot 11 I have had him measure me today, like you do with a child when they stand against the wall when you make a mark… Twice. I am now 5 foot 8.5.

I phoned the surgeon secretary and she said she's never heard of this before. She said maybe a quarter of an inch maximum.

What. The. Fuck

Have they removed anything?

I guess it depends on what the surgery was. I'd expect them to have discussed it with you if a significant loss in height was to be expected though

Has something slipped?

When were you last measured at 5'11? I'm pretty sure people naturally shrink over time; my mum swears she's 5'4 but I'm 5'5 and she's a good 2 or 3 inches shorter than me.

What was the surgery?

Report

I lost an Inch in height after back surgery too

Is it possible you're hunched over after the Op? Or perhaps dh measured inaccurately? Confused

It sounds like major surgery. Was it a discectomy after herniated discs? I hope it solves your issues and you recover soon. I think 5'8" is pretty tall no consolation I know

This should be in "The Unexplained"!

All the best for your recovery.

They repaired the discs so no nothing should have 'gone'

@OMGImTiny oh... I thought you were going to say 20 years ago. That is definitely odd then!!! Shock

Very odd!
If a vertebra or disc removed you would maybe be shorter Confused

Have you tried on any trousers, are they now too long?

Report
tanstaafl · 08/01/2021 13:52

When exactly were you 5’11”?
Measure exactly the same way now as you did then.

Or, your DP is playing one hell of a practical joke OP.

@satnighttakeaway

I thought that but they still fit. I have 35 inch inner legs and that hasn't changed, so it must be my torso. Which is going to end up with my body looking very out of proportion.

Ha, I usually wonder why people name change as the chances of being outed are ridiculously small.

Well, I do know you lol (you're the same height as me and ive noticed it in discussions we've had on FB group chats ) and I am on your Instagram and have been following your updates this week.

I know you have lots of followers so not sure you see my updates, but I'm currently puppy spamming my feed with my head-sitting pup (if that helps you identify me!)

Anyway, could it be a temporary reduction in height? While everything settles again?

See a chiropractor? It’s probably due to posture after surgery and you’re not always aware that your posture is off.

On the day if surgery were you measured in the same spot as at home? Or measured at the hospital?

Report
SunshineCake · 08/01/2021 14:10

I've lost 1.5inches in a time span I don't know but yours sounds quite unsettling.

Report
blankittyblank · 08/01/2021 14:11

Could you have been mis-measured in the hospital?

I'm sorry op but I found this thread really quite funny and then this post 😂. I don't mean to laugh but it's so bizarre, and your partner saying 'you look short' 😂 sorry I blame lockdown.
