Places to go when we can go to places?

To cheer myself up I’m dreaming of city breaks with my 13YO DD (not now obviously!). Would love to hear people’s recommendations for destinations in Europe with hotels too if there’s anywhere you particularly love. I’d like to take her to a relatively nice hotel and do lots of touristy things. Where are your favourite places to go? Was thinking Paris,London, Amsterdam,Edinburgh,Berlin as an easy hop on a plane but would love more ideas. I know we can’t go anywhere right now but it’s nice to plan and dream!

I want to go to Krakow or Kiev when travel is safe again.

I’ve been to Edinburgh. There’s a nice hill/rock (?) to climb and I went on a very funny ghost tour.

Another vote for Krakow. It’s safe, not too huge and lots to do. It’s the best city break I’ve had. Bruges is super easy to get to from UK and very cute. My teens when that age didn’t really ‘get’ Amsterdam, they preferred it when older. I fancy Budapest next.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Lots to keep us busy with ideas and planning. Krakow sounds great and I was thinking about Bruges too. @Nomnomarrgh was it the comedy ghost bus tour? I did that one and there were some older kids who also love it although I went with a friend! @ValpolicellaPrimitivo some brilliant ideas thank you!

You have to go to Rotterdam! I went for a few days and was amazed, such a fantastic place with a cool modern vibe ideal for a teen. Stay at H2Otel, a ship converted into a hotel, and visit the maritime museum and the fabulous Markthal (vast market/food hall that puts all others to shame). Take the historic tramline and hop-on-hop-off round the city, make sure you go the Delfshaven (the only bit that wasnt bombed to bits in WW2, more like Amsterdam with a cute windmill). See the modernist architecture eg the cube houses. And definitely do a long harbour cruise - it is bizarrely fascinating learning about this enormous industrial port and seeing all the massive container ships being loaded up, then whizzing back through the gorgeous modern skyline of Rotterdam. It is WAY better than Berlin for a long weekend (and I love Berlin, i have family there).
