(12 Posts)Hello
Both my DCs have birthdays this month (Dd will turn 11, ds will turn 9)
We're in lockdown and I'm shielding so we're limited to celebrating with just ourselves or online. They've both coped with so much this year including my cancer diagnosis. I'm coming to the end of 5 months of chemo so very much lacking in energy/creative ideas! They'd both like to do something with their friends eg on zoom but I've no idea what. Would just a kind of birthday chat work including singing happy birthday do you think? My son likes the idea of doing a quiz so I'm looking into that but not sure how easy that will be to organise!
I've said that on their birthdays they get to choose what we eat for every meal and can choose a family activity for us in the evening (film/game etc). Any other simple things I can do to make the days feel special?!
(Both birthdays are weekdays so they'll be doing online school 9-3.15)
We did a nice buffet at home, helium balloon, presents, walked to a park with the dog, lots of phonecalls and video calls to relatives and friends. Banners on front of the house.
Quiz sounds fab.
Helium balloons, great idea! I think there's a shop locally that might deliver. Thank you!
I have hired a zoom magician.
My dd will be 5 in March and already had had one lockdown birthday. If she has another, weather dependent I will hire a bouncy castle for her and her brother and maybe take a turn on it myself. What about a special breakfast, lunch and dinner? Decorate the house with balloons and banners.
My 9 year old did an online escape room (kids version) with his friends. They really enjoyed it, but they all love "investigating" and playing spy games back in the days before covid. If they like that sort of thing, it really was good fun.
What did you decide to do OP? I have a similar situation and welcome any help!
Quiz sounds a good idea! Or what about a treasure hunt type game, where each friend has to go and find 6 things in their house beginning with letter A (or any letter) and bring them to show to the others.you could always email them 30 minutes before the zoom party with the letter. Then tell them to go and find a hat and return wearing it. A green/red/blue top (from anyone in their house). Ask each child to prepare an impression of a film character (with props the better) and the other have to guess. If you have Amazon prime you can send a bar of chocolate for £1, so the prizes can be sent. See who can balance a football on their head the longest, play that game where you tilt your head back, rest a Jaffa cake or biscuit on your forehead and have to try and get it to your mouth without using your hands.

Love this!! Thank you so much!!
Can you tell me which escape room it is, and how it works? Do they need to zoom call or something at the same time? I think ds might like this if he ends up with another lockdown birthday in March.
That was @WhereverIGoddamnLike
