Does anything mundane still TOTALLY amaze you?

Mine is laundry.

When I lived with my parents my stuff would go into the washing basket, it would be there for days to 'make up a load' (my parents CRAM their washing machine full), it would be washed, hung up to dry either on the line or on an airer, ironed, had to go into the 'airing cupboard' for at least two days and THEN would finallt be allowed to be put away.

So about a week, possibly more, before I'd see favoutite items.

Now I do a load a day, stick it in the washing machine, stick it in the drier, put it away. That's it.

Times have changed. I know this. However, it STILL blows my mind when I'm putting away the pyjamas I wore the previous night a few hours after I took them off.

Every. Single. Time. My little brain judt xan't comprehend that a few hours ago they were dirty and now they're clean.

Am I odd?

That mammals grow a whole new mammal inside them.
Sometimes I look at my children (who are now enormous) and wonder how on eart it could be that they were made and grown inside me.
Mind blowing, yet it happens for millions of mammals every day.

Yes, when I text my ds who lives right over on the other side of the world from me. It amazes me that within a couple of minutes of me sending it he’s reading it!

The amount of water that comes out of the tumble dryer drawer. I have a new, super efficient washing machine and clothes are given a really good spin. They feel practically dry before they go in, yet the drawer is full Confused

Radio. I've never got my head around the fact that radio waves are around us all the time, indoors and outdoors, just waiting for us to use a device to tune in to them. It's magic.

Pets. That a completely different species can actually love us, and vice-versa.

Eggs.

Eggs are AMAZING.

An eggshell is strong enough to provide protection, but soft enough that a baby bird can break through it, and porous enough to breathe. They contain a ridiculous amount of nutrients, they're shaped to stop them falling out of nests / ledges.... they BLOW my little mind.

Sprouts. I'm a country girl but never realised sprouts grew on stalks until I was in my 40s. Shame on me but I'd grown everything else except sprouts. I still can't believe they grow on stalks like little alien things.

And cats. They can leave anytime they want. Mine has a catflap yet she has chosen to live with me in 4 different houses for 20 years.

Kitchen cupboards, how do they stay on the walls with all that weight inside them?
My cupboard is full with dinnerware and it's really heavy!

I'll never look at an egg the same again!

Reading always blows my mind a bit. All of these tiny letters and little words that have meanings and my brain can scan and put them all together and make sense of the meanings and ideas in seconds.

I used my birthday money to buy loads of new plates, bowls and dishes, spent a fortune on them! When I'd put them through the dishwasher then put them in the cupboard I was terrified it was going to fall off the wall and smash all my new lovely wares. Dh was scared too, he was the one who put the cupboard on the wall. It has been 4 months now and it's still holding strong Grin

How is there always enough water coming from the ground and hills to permanently keep a river flowing, even when it hasn't rained for ages?
I can't get my head around it!

The way the days get longer and shorter, just bit by bit and you don't really notice until suddenly you have lovely light evenings.

The way my puppy has grown in less than a year to almost a fully grown dog.

I was going to say the same. I hated being pregnant, but still found it totally amazing that I grew a whole person (well 2 people) inside me. With eyelashes and finger nails and everything.
Said people are now bigger than me and it seems impossible that they were ever small enough to be inside. I prefer not to think about how they got out Grin

The ocean

I mean its cold wet and salty ajd you regret the trip to the sea side the second your kids want u to wrestle with a wet swim suit in what is always the world's grubbiest public toilet complete with charging u fir the privilege.

But when u see pictures of whats underneath the surface, the colours of the fish, the detail on the fish, all the tiny little creatures hidden under every rock and in holes in the sand...its just incredible. And beautiful.

All the comments on this thread are really endearing. We're all just wide eyed children, really Smile

The randomness of the shape of us amazes me, sometimes. We could so easily have evolved otherwise. Particularly something like having 6 fingers instead of 5. And yet what FREAKS we are considered to be if we have such a similar anomaly. Or our noses could be 2 inches longer from top to bottom. If we were like that, the us we are now would look hideous to us. And the tiny tiny differences between stunningly beautiful people and totally average ones. We are so sensitive to these little tiny things.
