Do you have an ottoman bed? Can you answer a few questions?

I really, really need a new bed and storage is our number one consideration. If you have an ottoman bed and love it, please recommend/link it.

Can you tell me whether yours sits flush to the floor. Does this result in stubbed toes? And if it doesn't sit on the floor, does the weight of the contents affect the base? DD has a divan and if you put in anything heavier than a small bag of feathers, the bases of the drawers collapse and I don't want the same issue.

Did you manage to find one in a colour other than grey?

How much can you fit in?

Was delivery okay? Did yours dismantle adequately?

Fabric or wooden?

Why are headboards so big these days?

I am so BORED with looking at beds. Half the reviews read as lies written by the manufacturer's mother or have a mixture of "best bed ever, saved my marriage" vs "cheap shite, ruined my life and killed my puppy" for the same fricking bed.

I tried a shop between lockdowns and the smarmy salesman couldn't tell me anything of use and kept calling me madam. I left him trapped in a divan base on an industrial estate in Norwich. Who knows if he's still there.

It's about 10mm off the floor, I can stub my toes on thin air but no, I don't do it anymore than when I just had 2 legs to not avoid

How much can you fit in? Absolutely loads! (It's king size)

Was delivery okay? Did yours dismantle adequately? Yep, it's like a divan in that it splits in 2 so you bolt it together once it's on the room. The delivery guys took it upstairs but we (me & Dh ) would have been able to do it ourselves.

Fabric or wooden? it's fabric on the outside but is wooden (ply presumably) on the inside, this is what prevents the bottom sagging

Why are headboards so big these days? Fuck knows, I said the same to Dh!

We have a wooden framed one, bought from Dreams a few years ago. Storage wise, it's great - we keep out of season duvets, bedsheets, spare pillows, crafting stash, etc. in there. No stubbed toes, but at first it was a bugger for damaging your shins (it has small wooden pillars at the corners that hide under the duvet which I keep walking into). It weighs an absolute ton and was dreadful to put together (had to call the store for help in the end). However, saying all that, it's really easy to access the storage, and there is much more storage than you would get with divan drawers.

I have the Argos Home Lavendon Kingsize Ottoman Bed Frame.

It sits flush on the floor. But it's soft on the sides so doesn't hurt feet. It fits so so much in it.

This is ours, just about (ours is a year old & the headboard style has changed slightly), I wanted side opening as it works better in our room. It's far less yellow than it looks on the picture.

IKEA sell a reasonable looking one, but I'm very hesitant to buy a bed without seeing the quality. I'll be following the replies you get, I've been trying to find something i like for ages!

I have visions of storing all our towels, spare bedding and shoes out of the way and maybe Christmas presents once a year.

I'm wondering if having one flush to the floor is worth the extra storage?

They're mostly very ugly and grey with enormous headboards but the odd one like this one looks okay. I just wonder how much space you lose with those legs and how well the base supports any stored weight.

We have one in the spare room, Malm by Ikea. The frame is flush to the floor but does have a light base too for the contents. Fits loads - several spare duvets and blankets as these are too big for the airing cupboard. More than we'd get into divan drawers.
Delivery was during Covid and pretty simple, selected a convenient date, given a time slot, they rang when they were half an hour away.
Construction also pretty simple and clear even for Ikea.

The storage and reviews for the IKEA one did sway me but I can't bear how it looks. I don't live in a trendy Scandi flat and a big white block of a thing would look awful in my 30s 3 bed semi.

I wouldn’t store shoes and bedding together. I did it for a while and everything smelt musty. I’ve now got boxes of wire/cables etc under there and moved the shoes. It works much better and isn’t so musty now.

Mine is grey (thanks DH) but a side opening, and I agree, the headboard is MASSIVE. It’s flush to the floor but I don’t stub my toes. Because it’s side opening it’s got a metal bar on one side to stop the mattress falling off. My knee ALWAYS finds that and it’s super painful. Mine was from dreams. I wouldn’t buy this one again but would buy another ottoman bed, the storage is amazing.

We have a king-size and DD has a double. Both are wooden, ours an oak colour, DD's white. I haven't noticed that I've stubbed my toe, although very occasionally bumped my leg on the corner if I'm walking around to the other side. I love, love, love the storage. Couldn't be without it now. Bedding, towels, out of season clothing etc etc. We bought ours from my cousin who owns an independent furniture shop so I can't link to what we have, but might be worth going to an independent shop if you have some around instead of just sticking to Dreams etc. I think the mattress is the most important bit for comfort so you need to get that right.

I've been impressed with the 'Madrid' from Argos; bought the single version in wood colour (also comes in white) for DD a few months ago. Was easy enough to assemble by myself (two people recommended, not sure why) although I do have quite a bit of experience in assembling flatpack furniture. Lovely quality, comfortable (sprung slats), sits flush to the floor, which I guess means you could stub toes but it's way better in terms of dust not getting in and being able to put anything underneath regardless of weight.

Have a different kind of ottoman bed in our room, plush headboard and an inch off the floor. I think DD's is much better! Ours gathers dust underneath but is impossible to clean under. You have to be really careful about overloading it; it's held up well so far but we mostly only store bedding under there. If you had heavy things to stash away they could easily break the bottom, I reckon. Platform top so not quite as luxurious a feel under the mattress. I would risk the stubbed toes if I were you and get something that sits flat on the floor.

ours has so much storage. king size bed. it sits pretty much flush to the floor and i actually stub my toes less now than when we had a "leggy bed".

the downside is that the inside for storage is messy (although this is my issue). i have recently ordered packing cubes and vacuum bags to keep things nice and neat under there. once i have these it'll be a game changer

I need to base the revamp of our bedroom on something iyswim. I've just finished the bathroom and chose floor tiles first so had something to tie everything else to. I don't even know where to start with the bedroom. It's magnolia and hasn't been decorated for at least 30 years I reckon. We are stripping it back to brick and replastering and thought the bed could be a starting point. Only 89% of options are grey velour.

This is mine. I love it.
It is almost to the floor.
Haven’t stubbed my toe on it ever.
The headboard is against the wall but the bed is slightly further forward than my last one because of it.
Mine doesn’t have any drawers - it’s just a big space with a fabric base so everything is almost on the floor. I can fit loads under it though!
The only thing I will say about it is be careful when you put it together which side you have it open on. I didn’t think it through so now have to move my beside table every time I want to open the bed.
I got an IKEA mattress not the dreams one. Can’t remember why.

I keep Christmas decs, presents for the dc's birthdays, bulky jumpers, shoes/boots, winter coats & lots of blue & white China (that I inherited from my Gran) in there, my painting bits & wrapping paper. When we get all the Christmas stuff out I start putting the dc presents in (we have 5) & it easily accommodated all their presents from us & some that we get given by relatives. Before I put the other stuff in it could hold all of it.

For me, yes it's worth having it almost to the floor. The big headboard doesn't actually annoy me much now I'm used to it!

I definitely didn't want grey but I didn't want a bright colour either. I like the oatmeal/sand colour as it should still fit in if/when we redecorate the room.

I have the IKEA Gvarv Its great and it holds spare duvets, clean bedding sets, 2 suitcases with summer/office clothing and out of season sports kit. But it's grey so won't work for you

Ours is a king sized one, came as two narrow single bases with one lift up
lid (it has 4 hydraulic raisers so is easy to lift). It has castors so it sits about 5cm above the ground so no stubbed toes but things do get kicked under it sometimes. It's fairly solid but padded, no banged shins or similar. We keep all sorts in it, out of season clothes and shoes, bags, spare bedding and curtains, box files full of paperwork, you name it. No mustiness. The headboard is large but separate, we like it for sitting up reading.

The consensus does seem to be to the floor so far! I dream of moving the bedding and towels in particular. And wrapping paper. I currently have to schlep into the loft every time I want to wrap anything.

Ours is a superking in a gentle golden / oatmeal colour, with tiny (2cm at most) feet. No stubbed toes or bruised shins. Serious wooden frame to support the storage (takes 2 grown men to shift it and I have never hoovered behind it as a result) and 4 drawers as well as massive internal storage. I have no idea how I managed without it. The headboard is stupid sized, though.

DS2 has an IKEA Malm double Ottoman bed. It's lighter weight, easier to access, still has masses of storage - and has evil pointy corners that I catch my shins on every single time I'm in that room.

At least two thirds of the IKEA reviews mention the sharp corners! You'd think they'd take note.

Two grown men required in the bedroom at all times. Duly noted.
