My DS(1) has been happily been playing with his toys all morning and had a lie in until 9am this morning (which is rare!). We have had such a calming morning, its bliss.

With regards to the bin topic: The communal bio bin is full. If DH would use the special liners provided by me, we could still empty ours into it, but no, he likes to improvise.

We're having minced beef & onion pie, chips & gravy for tea and I'm really looking forward to it. There's cake for afters as well.

Bin bag success! There was a big delivery just before Christmas. Happy days! We can now squash down all the cardboard packaging from our Christmas deliveries for bagging and recycling. Sodding will miss his cardboard play fort, but hey 🤷 - we need the space back. (Copied across from old thread,)

We had a supper last night which was entirely bought party food - paella arancini-type bites, Asian snacks and mini pies. I was inspired to make paella for lunch today, so I bought prawns when I picked up the bin bags. I’m also going to make a Waldorf salad for later.

Huzzah to binbag success! You had us all worried there sodding

We have lots of boxes too but I think we will save them for now as we have a fair few presents we couldn’t deliver in person, so we might post them. Not sure if we’re going to try for a second Christmas once things calm down a bit and we’re allowed to travel again.

DH and DS have just set off for a bike ride. DS was wrapped up in thermal leggings, joggers, two T-shirts (long and short sleeves), his warmest fleece, coat, two pairs of mittens and fleece ear warmers on his helmet. DH is wearing shorts. I do wonder about that man sometimes...! 🥶

A couple of our boxes are so big we could post the kids to relatives in them. Grin

Happy birthday to your DS, @spudlet although your user name is so cute I think of it as belonging to your DS anyway.

I’m glad the right bags have been acquired @soddingkitten.

At DS’s request, DH has got the clippers out and given him a much needed haircut but I miss the fluffy curls all over his face.

The cat is eyeing up my lunch.
My lunch is the food of the gods (Christmas dinner leftovers, fried until slightly crispy, with gravy and a slice of bread and butter).

The cat has gone now.

Happy 5th birthday to your lovely DS Spudlett Bear

Silkiecat sends her sympathy to Eggycat2 and can't believe how kind Eggycat2 was not to attack your DH for not sharing turkey. He'ld probably be leaving for hospital if he lived with Silkiecat and denied her turkey. She has just eaten lots more turkey and DH, DS and I have had turkey sandwiches. DD is still sleeping being a teenager and vegan.

DH is playing the piano. I'm drinking tea.

Off to make my paella now. DH and DSs are heading out for a quick stroll so I expect I will have to shut Sodding out of the kitchen to cook lunch in peace. 🙄 Chicken and prawns top his list of favourite things after DS1.

Welcome @RosieLemonade, @WantChewbaccaForGood, @ikltownofboothlehem and @Mammma91 and thanks for sharing your calming news. So many newcomers!

I'm nipping off to the supermarket before Zoom church to get what DH needs to take over to MIL later. Chicken and shrimp prawns are on her list too sodding. Smile

Happy Birthday mini-Spud!
I am accidentally watching Songs of Praise because I stopped replacing the tv remote after the dog chewed the third or fourth one, and I cba getting up.

I quite fancy a coffee and a biscuit though, so that might prod me into action.

Woah woah woah, wait a minute. Are prawns the same thing as shrimp?! I had no idea!

Report
soddingkitten · 27/12/2020 13:46

In British English, I’d assumed shrimps were the smaller prawn-family critters

I just yesterday realized - googling food from another thread - that "chocolates" are "Pralinen".

The cat is bored because she's chased eleventy billion toys under all the cupboards. She's sitting beside me mewing pathetically because I haven't leapt to shift all the furniture for her Grin

I am doing the world's dullest online order: broom, laundry basket, oven glove, tea towels...whoop, the giddiness of it!

Report

That depends, Prok. Pralines usually mean chocolates with a nut-based paste as the filling. In a selection box, you’d also have chocolates with coconut, hard toffee, runny caramel, coffee or fruit-based fillings which would not be pralines. Also, liqueur filled chocolates are not captured by the praline descriptor. They are just ‘liqueur chocolates’.

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat. That made me chuckle. She's a dopey soppy thing really. EggyCat1 is more likely to rip your face off. But not mine. I'm her favourite

I have got Amazon Music working on my phone again. I uninstalled and reinstalled it. I have just created an excellent running playlist that I'm currently listening to. Now I just need to actually go out for a run.

Welcome to all the newcomers. It's warm and cosy and friendly in here.

We have taken the Xmas decs down today. Pine needles everywhere were driving me mad.

Snow is forecast but it's raining so won't stick.

Bins go out tomorrow so that's good as they are full.

I love semantics! (The liquer filled ones would be 'Likörpralinen')

A fellow student once used the fact her sister was a doctor on a ward full of bored patients to give out a questionaire to find out "when a cup turns into a mug" (Tasse -> Becher) and other fun things and when you child is autistic meaning is discussed a lot.

A whole nut in solid chocolate, like a brazil or hazelnut, would not be a praline either. I’ve never given this much thought, but there’s a considerable degree of precision in describing chocolates. 😄

Report
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/12/2020 14:45

There is also the difference between the expert chocolatiers definition of Praline and the other types.
Technically a Halloren would be a Praline, but "no way" as DS would say!

When we were allowed outside and near actual humans I spent time here: www.rausch.de/schokoladenhaus

Fortunately nowhere near as much precision is required to eat them Xmas Grin
