Excess Christmas chocolate/biscuits

paisleybandana · 25/12/2020 16:33

We have very generously been gifted a large amount of chocolate & biscuits from family and friends. However, it's too much for us and my lack of willpower means that if it's in the house I'll end up eating it!

Not sure what to do with it. My husband has opened most of the packs (aaargh!) so can't even regift or donate. Normally I'd take it to work but I'm working from home so that's not possible. Would prefer not to bin it.

What else could we do with it?

You can't give people opened boxes of biccies. Eat them or bin.

If you have any unopened ones donate them if you can, to food banks or shelters near you.
Unfortunately they won't take open packs, could you just keep the chocolates on hand in the hopes that one day were allowed to see people again often. Biscuits won't keep so id just enjoy them between now and the new year.

I think he was just hungry as it had been a while since breakfast, but yes, not his finest decision

Just bin them.
I understand the problem of too much sweet things in the house too well.

Definitely bin them. It’s no more wasteful than eating something that you don’t actually need/want/enjoy.

How many packs are you talking about?
I can imagine someone opening three or maybe four pack to try different ones, but not ten or twelve packs.
You will have to keep them, as no charity will accept opened packs. If you've got children, they will soon demolish any number of packs of biscuits! Xmas Grin

Just bin them. Nobody is going to be better off if you don't.

I’ve been known to turn that stuff into crumbs and freeze it. Then I’ve used it to sprinkle on cakes I’ve made.

We have three tubs of various chocs plus other stuff. I put half a dozen in my lunch bag throughout Jan/Feb.
It’s another reason my BMI is 29.

I know you said that you are working from home, but is DH actually at work? He could take them in to his office (or wherever).
Might be accepted by the staffroom at school if you have children.

I can't see what you can do with open biscuits given covid except bin them. It's freeing, especially this time of year just to get it out of the house. It's a shame your dh did that...

I disagree that you have too many of you DH managed to open most of them.... unless he was on an unwrapping marathon... let him enjoy them! X

I think its really important to realise eating food you don't want /don't need is just as wasteful as throwing it out.

If you can't give it away (because there's noone to give them to that you are allowed to see in your tier and as they are opened you can't donate to food bank etc), then throw them rather than eat them.

Never eat more than you need/want purely to avoid waste. Any food eaten by someone who neither wants nor needs it is wasted.

Drop off the opened packets to any homeless people near you?

TBH I'd probably eat them, though.

In fairness, I'd happily accept open boxes from close family - different if it's from a randomer, mind you. No such thing as too much choc here! I can ration myself and never have to buy myself chocolate thanks to Christmas, birthday and Easter 😃😃
