What has 2020 taught you?

I have learnt to appreciate the small things, to let old grievances go, to love my dp and ds openly and freely, that kindness is invaluable and to be thankful for all I have.

It turns out all I needed I had anyway, but didn't realise.

That life is so fragile and that all the times I was invited out and cancelled due to being tired/skint/insert insipid excuse here/ .. I should have gone.

That things don't matter. People are what matters.

The Tories are happier than even I thought to neglect the vulnerable.

Extreme wealth insulates you from most of the hardest things- look at how out of touch Rita Ora/Kardashians etc seem.

I’m glad I’m not younger and trying to build a life. I’ve got a steady career job with a reliable employer and an adequately sized home. From that nice safe base, I really just need my DC and DH to be here and be ok.

I love my family more than anything. They make me happier than anything.

That getting up in the middle of the night to spend two hours driving to an airport in the dark, then the next two hours standing in queues is actually a privilege.

How lucky we are to have our home and our health, and our jobs

How few things we actually do as a family and has made us rethink how we spend our weekends in 2021- we did not change much in lockdown!

Me particularly: who my true friends are. Who actually cares for me.

How much I need a holiday next year!

That my children are wonderful, resilient and that I love how happy they are in each other's company.

That we should be grateful what what we have and not stress the small stuff.

That this Government are devoid of any moral fibre.

That life as you know it can change from one day to another.

2020 has also taught me why DS1 (9) has always been such a difficult (though lovable) child (disabilities diagnosed). And that he's not lazy or not trying. He is trying so much harder than everyone else at every moment of the day, just to pass as a normal, average achieving child whereas his potential is so much higher if we can get him the support he needs.

That my dislike of handshakes, kissing or hugging is a blessing. Just thought I was a bit freaky. Turns out my natural instinct is psychic Hmm

That I am actually a lot happier having a baby with no pressure to be going to baby classes and groups.

I’ve learned to appreciate walking and just being outdoors in general.

And I think I already knew this but it’s reinforced to me how important my family are. I’ve missed them all so much it’s unbearable, cannot wait to be able to make up for lost time.
