Help with a rhyming poem

LeftHandDown · 18/12/2020 13:23

My dad is quite difficult to buy presents for due to health issues. As we won't be seeing my parents over Christmas, we thought we'd have a bit of fun, so I have bought him a Christmas jumper that he'll dislike wearing and intend to ask for pictures of him wearing it in varying poses throughout the day.

I'd like to convey this in a thyme/poem, but this has never been a forte of mine. Can anybody help please?

This is the best I can do!

This gift is not to your taste
It will probably make you irate
But play along and have some fun
And send a pose as requested

If you could wear this just for a day
Then we could have games and play
I know it’s not your cup of tea
But pop it on and humour me
Could you strike a pose or two
Maybe you wouldn’t feel so blue

Now you’re wearing it, time for task one
And remember this is suppose to be fun!
I imagine you’ll of had your breakfast by now
So match the jumper with a tea towel.
Strike a pose at the kitchen sink,
And give the camera a cheeky wink.

Last two lines:

Not seeing each other is tough for all
But we can meet virtually by video call

This gift won't be to your taste
You may even think it a waste,
But don't protest at my Christmas test
Send the poses I request!

Love the idea of rhyming the poses too, I can adjust that throughout the day.

Task 2 is your chance to let your feelings show,
So furrow those eyebrows really low.
Contort your face, frown and gurn
But be careful that the wind doesn’t turn!
Strike a pose with the grumpiest expression,
And pray that next year I’ll have learnt my lesson!

Now this one needs a little help,
So maybe Mum can be Santa’s elf.
What activity does Dad do best?
Obviously lay down for a little rest!
Take a photo whilst Dads snoring away,
Tired out from the excitement of Christmas Day!

This is fun and very distracting Grin

Now it’s time for task number three
Oh not more - what can it be?
Wearing your jumper sing us a song.
Be glad I got you an Xmas sweater, not a thong....

(Not suitable for your dad, obviously!)

There once was a Dad whose daughter
Bought him a Christmas jumper because she thought he oughta
So they could see him in silly poses
From his toes to his noses
So the family could be United in festive laughter

Now here comes task number four
Bet you’re regretting being a bore
This jumper is to good to hide
Time for a walk - lets go outside

Now I know this present is shit
But you're a grumpy old git
So do me a favour,
Give us some joy I can savour
Strike a pose in this crappy Xmas knit

Now we are down to the final one
And you’re going to find this really fun
Yippee, thank god, hip hip hooray
You can finally throw the jumper away!
Cut it, burn it, destroy it in many ways,
So this game isn’t repeated in 365 days!

Maybe ask him to re-enact the Twelve Days of Christmas whilst wearing the jumper?

That sounds very much like what DH would say!

That may be a step too far!

This is the message I put in with the jumper. Thank you for all your help.

You may even think it a waste
But if you could wear this just for a day
Then we could have games and play
I know it’s not your cup of tea
But pop it on and humour me.

Strike a pose in front of the tree,
Give the camera a cheeky wink
And forward the picture to me
Don't protest at my Christmas test
Send the poses I request!

Dear Dad, this is your Christmas present
It will make you incandescent
Suck it up and have a laugh
It’s better than a woolly scarf

I love you more than words can say
Miss you Dad on Christmas Day
We’ll be together in the summer
And forget thi Christmas bummer
