If you have a spin bike at home - how often do you use it?

I just started hoping spinning before the first lockdown and it's the only exercise I've not hated. I was starting to get fitter and was losing some weight.

Even when the gym re-opened they weren't doing classes and lockdown hasn't been kind to my weight!

I'm thinking about getting a spin bike but wondering how much I'll use it and whether a £350 one will be anywhere near as sturdy as the ones in the gym?

We do and it’s used 2-3 times a week pretty consistently. We have the Les Mills membership which was about £100pa and use the spin classes on that. The bike was about £300 from powerhouse fitness and is good enough. Not flimsy, not as sturdy as gym ones

I got one when lockdown started. I’ve used it twice or maybe 3 times...

I have an elliptical machine, I keep planning to use it but at the moment it's where my heated blanket lives.....
I got it on Freecycle though, so that mitigates the guilt.
If you start looking now you would probably get a spin bike on Freecycle or your local equivalent by January. People upgrade at Christmas and need to get rid of the old ones for space.
If you use it loads you can buy yourself a nice new one as a reward when they go on sale in the summer..

I have a spin bike and it’s used at least five times a week; Mine is the JTX cyclo 6 bike which has a 22kg flywheel; it’s really sturdy and as good as the bikes in my gym. The Les Mills app is great and has various spin programmes.

I would second keeping an eye on the second hand sites/ Facebook marketplace- loads of people I know bought one for lockdown, never used it and are now selling for some extra Xmas money.
I have a home gym and my DP uses it 5 times or so a week and I use it whenever I can’t get to the proper gym. I don’t know why but I always get a better workout at the gym, I get bored quickly at home.

I’ve got one - use it 3 or 4 times a week. Can’t see me going back to spin at the gym until the virus is gone now.

We have an echelon bike, my partner uses it most days, I generally use it around three times a week.

Wow! Lots of spinners!

We don't really have the space so I'd definitely need to use it lots to justify it!

Where did you all buy from? Have looked on local selling sites but nothing jumping out yet.

Oh - and are they noisy? Could I put 1 upstairs in the bedroom?

I bought a Peloton I'm afraid. It is amazing and quiet

We have peloton and have had it for a year or so. I use it a few times a week and nothing else compares to it really - shame it's £££

If anyone fancies buying one then the code HC2QKE will get you £100 off and also give me some peloton clothes. It's not much but all helps of you do consider getting one

I think the key to keeping it interesting is joining a subscription service that you like. Peloton being the obvious one (I've never used Peloton but people rave).

I personally LOVE the Les Mills programmes for Spin. They have 3... RPM, Sprint and The Trip (love love this one). I've used Les Mills on Demand for years and am an addict of all their programmes - Spin being the latest!

I reckon if you invest in a bike and a subscription you will keep coming back for more. I would definitely invest in a bike if I had the space (one bedroom flat and just enough room for my barbell and step tbh!) but since the gyms have been open I've been doing their Spin class once a week then 1 or 2 times using the spin bike there but having a Les Mill workout on my phone. Really rate it.

I have one that I use 6 - 9 times per week and DH uses about 2 - 3 times per week. Got a studio bike from JTX.

I bought one in August and was using the Les Mills online classes. Two weeks later I rolled my ankle on a loose paving slab and tore the ligaments, leaving me in a huge moonboot for eight weeks 🙄

My ankle is much better now but I haven’t used the bike again due to sheer laziness Blush

I bought a second hand one off ebay. It's the same as I used at the gym. I use it 2-3 times a week at the moment but when it's icy I can't run outside so use it more maybe 5 times a week. There are spin classes on YouTube so I do some of them. It is a bit noisy if the resistance is high nut more than that mine is completely solid so I wouldn't want to carry it upstairs. Mine is in the garage as I find spinning really hot so it's nice to have fresh air. Also consider the flooring as it can be sweaty so you don't want that on carpet 🤮.

It's so cool! I'm actually finding myself looking forward to getting to the gym at 6am (before work 😩) now that I can do the trip there!

Random question - def going to order one (not sure which yet)

Do you get changed into your full on gym gear to spin at-home?
