Ok, so it's not quite a badly written shopping list but close. So retro! I found it in a book I bought from Amazon.

Interestingly, the date is the day I started my periods!

What were you up to in 1996? What is Mexicorn?

Being young and carefree! The 90s were good times. Had been to a festival that summer and was enjoying flat sharing. Ate all sorts of things at the time but never came across Mexicorn!

Mexicorn was tinned sweetcorn with little bits of bell pepper added to make it 'Mexican'.

I think Mexicorn was a tin of sweet corn with chopped up red and green peppers in it

That Marmite hasn't gone up than much, for almost 25 years. It's £2.69 for 250 g now.

I had a DC in 96 Grin
Mexicorn was like beanfeast iirc.

Beanfeast! Does that still exist? Reminds me of when I just started being vegetarian 😊

Wow. Parisian baguette!
No idea about the mexicorn.
1996 I was an off the rails 16yr old on a mission to self-destruct. I certainly wasn't out shopping.

Love how I can’t remember to pay a bill but can easily remember obscure foods from 30 years ago haha

Sweetcorn with beans in it?

I was at primary school.

Mexicorn was tinned sweetcorn with bits of pepper in it, green giant brand I think?

Oh I love this...it combines my two passions, nostalgia and supermarket shopping!

Fig rolls, can you still get them?

I'm shocked how cheap NOW Rich Tea biscuits are - this is one of the reasons we have an obesity crisis, our reliance to feed children crap if you're poor Sad as fruit/veg much dearer than biscuits etc

Beanfeast, how I started my veggie years! I am so pleased we have all the stuff we have now!

Also started my period in October 96 although it was the 7th... at school, traumatic! Thought I was weird for remembering the date.

Nope, Weight Watchers: “WW Tasty Cheese” which means it was probably vile.

£30 in 1996 would be roughly £48 in 2020. That said I'm not convinced it would be enough for that list today.

I think food is much cheaper now in comparison to income than it was in 1996. I was a student then and I remember a pint of milk being 45p. It's only 50p now almost 25 years later. Same with bread, a loaf cost around 80p and now I can buy a cheap one in Tesco for around the same price or a nicer one for around £1.

Oh my goodness, that was our main supermarket back in the day. I shopped in there in the 80s as a child with my Mum! I think it's still there.
