And im a bit 😏 about it. Just doesn’t hit spot for me.

Its a bit played down to what they have produced in the past.

I like it. It’s difficult to see what else they could have done. Nice that they have had an original song written for it too this time.

Mm, just saw it on Breakfast. I liked the different styles of animation but can’t get over the shit croaky music they always use. It didn’t do it for me this year!

Spectacularly unimpressed this year.
I didn’t even cry!

Feel the same OP. It’s ok... but I feel there’s been a missed opportunity. I’d be interested to see how much it cost. Ironic to spend ££££ and then ask us to give a little.
Would rather have seen a black screen, white words ‘this year has been different’ sort of thing. Lovely song like this year in the background.
And ‘we have donated the cost of our advert to these charities’
Or even reinvested in the workers and not cut so many jobs!
Perhaps I’m being a total cynic,
Prefer aldi this year I think!

I like it. It’s smart in that there is so much going on with all the different types of animation that people will stayed focused watching it.
Music was bleh though.

@Margaritawithlime I like your idea!

I also thought it was ok, I liked the bit with the super long cracker and the old man laughing at the joke Grin but didn’t fill me with giddy festive excitement like some of their previous ads have.

I thought it was crap. 🤣

Mcdonalds has been my favourite so far.

Well that's filled me with Christmas spirit🙄
Feels very low budget but then I guess budgets are low this year. Still glad to see they made use of their staff and shop floor displays during lockdown.

Interesting they’ve chosen to pretend the pandemic isn’t happening. The brief hairdresser scene gave me a little start that the hairdresser wasn’t wearing a mask and visor.

No, not feeling it here too. Big disappointment for me.

The penguin one will still take some beating for me, that one turned me to a blubbering mess!

Christ, there’s something wrong with me, I welled up at that (could be the sleep deprivation, I’ve been up since 4.30am with a poorly greyhound). Also, shit croaky music? Celeste is NOT shit croaky music, how very dare you Grin

Maybe they should have cut some of their previous advertising budgets in order to keep their stores open.

Thanks for the heads up OP. Yeah I'm a bit ambivalent. It's ok. The music genre of slow fragile voice is getting a bit tired now I think. Not a classic.

Very dull. Aldi or McDonald's wins it for me.

where?

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 13/11/2020 07:37

I'm rather ambivalent too. But I don't think they're ignoring the pandemic, it's just that it doesn't heavily feature in the ad. It was definitely there - the shopping left at the door, the Christmas cracker pulled between two houses, & home haircuts?

Oh thank god its just not me!

I was prepared to get a right bollocking for disliking it😂

You'll need tissues for the Mcdonalds one, it's an emotional rollercoaster. 🥰

Aaw I like it! it's on the John Lewis website btw.

Touching sentiment, good animation and nicely varied and diverse. I think it suits the time (Covid, obvs) really well Smile

I loved it! I thought using the different styles of animation was clever and made it really interesting to look at.

I liked it, had a wee tear.

Full on bawling at McDonald’s though 😭
