And im a bit 😏 about it. Just doesn’t hit spot for me.

Its a bit played down to what they have produced in the past.

I like it. It’s difficult to see what else they could have done. Nice that they have had an original song written for it too this time.

PolarnOPirate Fri 13-Nov-20 07:21:46

Mm, just saw it on Breakfast. I liked the different styles of animation but can’t get over the shit croaky music they always use. It didn’t do it for me this year!

FelicityPike Fri 13-Nov-20 07:21:55

Spectacularly unimpressed this year.
I didn’t even cry!

Margaritawithlime Fri 13-Nov-20 07:22:21

Feel the same OP. It’s ok... but I feel there’s been a missed opportunity. I’d be interested to see how much it cost. Ironic to spend ££££ and then ask us to give a little.
Would rather have seen a black screen, white words ‘this year has been different’ sort of thing. Lovely song like this year in the background.
And ‘we have donated the cost of our advert to these charities’
Or even reinvested in the workers and not cut so many jobs!
Perhaps I’m being a total cynic,
Prefer aldi this year I think!

malhurst Fri 13-Nov-20 07:22:53

I like it. It’s smart in that there is so much going on with all the different types of animation that people will stayed focused watching it.
Music was bleh though.

Simonsaysitschristmas Fri 13-Nov-20 07:24:05

@Margaritawithlime I like your idea!

I also thought it was ok, I liked the bit with the super long cracker and the old man laughing at the joke grin but didn’t fill me with giddy festive excitement like some of their previous ads have.

Ickabog Fri 13-Nov-20 07:24:06

I thought it was crap. 🤣

Mcdonalds has been my favourite so far.

WilsonandNoodles Fri 13-Nov-20 07:24:21

Well that's filled me with Christmas spirit🙄
Feels very low budget but then I guess budgets are low this year. Still glad to see they made use of their staff and shop floor displays during lockdown.

malhurst Fri 13-Nov-20 07:24:27

Interesting they’ve chosen to pretend the pandemic isn’t happening. The brief hairdresser scene gave me a little start that the hairdresser wasn’t wearing a mask and visor.

MrsWhites Fri 13-Nov-20 07:24:35

No, not feeling it here too. Big disappointment for me.

The penguin one will still take some beating for me, that one turned me to a blubbering mess!

Judashascomeintosomemoney Fri 13-Nov-20 07:25:13

Christ, there’s something wrong with me, I welled up at that (could be the sleep deprivation, I’ve been up since 4.30am with a poorly greyhound). Also, shit croaky music? Celeste is NOT shit croaky music, how very dare you grin

nitgel Fri 13-Nov-20 07:25:35

Maybe they should have cut some of their previous advertising budgets in order to keep their stores open.

Lounging Fri 13-Nov-20 07:25:55

Thanks for the heads up OP. Yeah I'm a bit ambivalent. It's ok. The music genre of slow fragile voice is getting a bit tired now I think. Not a classic.

20viona Fri 13-Nov-20 07:26:47

Very dull. Aldi or McDonald's wins it for me.

JamminDoughnuts Fri 13-Nov-20 07:29:49

where?

OrangeIsTheNewTwat Fri 13-Nov-20 07:37:54

I'm rather ambivalent too. But I don't think they're ignoring the pandemic, it's just that it doesn't heavily feature in the ad. It was definitely there - the shopping left at the door, the Christmas cracker pulled between two houses, & home haircuts?

Sheknowsaboutme Fri 13-Nov-20 07:38:07

Oh thank god its just not me!

I was prepared to get a right bollocking for disliking it😂

Ive only seen the bit showed on BBC breakfast, not impressed, Kevin the Carrot is still my favourite....not seen Mcdonalds yet but it seems to be getting good reviews!

Monty will always be my favourite too!

It was ok, but ageee probably not as good as usual. I didn't even cry grin
McDonald's has been my favourite too (yes I did cry at that blush)

You'll need tissues for the Mcdonalds one, it's an emotional rollercoaster. 🥰

KaptainKaveman Fri 13-Nov-20 07:46:36

Aaw I like it! it's on the John Lewis website btw.

Touching sentiment, good animation and nicely varied and diverse. I think it suits the time (Covid, obvs) really well smile

JulesJules Fri 13-Nov-20 07:53:47

I loved it! I thought using the different styles of animation was clever and made it really interesting to look at.
