Am I early or normal?

For the last few years I've been having night sweats. The doctor said I was probably peri menopausal.

And now for the last 3 weeks I've had so many full on symptoms all at once. I've got a blood test in the morning to see if I've hit full menopause.

I'm 48 soon and I have a mirena coil. My symptoms in include

Night sweats (I now use a Chillow and just a sheet)

Very hot and clammy feet (I went for a walk yesterday in flip-flops to cool them down Grin)

Very low mood, no patience, irritable and sad.

Muscle spasms when I first relax in bed.

Itchy skin

Hot flushes (but my feet are permanently hot)

Sex drive went through the roof, then dropped just as quickly

Mood swings from happy to tears for no reason!

So would you say I'm "in menopause" or still peri? And is 48 early?

I'm seeing the nurse in the morning so I'll ask her this too.

I don't think you're particularly early, depends when your mum did, it's highly inherited apparently. It sounds like perimenopause to me (menopause is officially when periods have completely stopped)

Hey OP! Waves. You would probably have been better posting this in the Menopause topic. The GP should really consider the list of symptoms together rather than just the blood test. The blood test is just a snap shot of one day and shouldn’t be relied on solely. My mum was a Menopause trained nurse and this was one of her biggest annoyances. Taken together it does sound like you’re in peri menopause though.

Thank you everyone. 🙂 I had my blood tests and asked the nurse to note all my other symptoms. I feel like I'm on fire. I did the school run in flip flops and a vest Grin. I know my mum had HRT but I'm not allowed that as I've had a pulimary embolism in the past. And thanks again I never knew there was a menopause topic 🙂
