Wearing jewellery and "looking professional"

I don't wear high heeled shoes for work. I also know there's been endless debates about whether wearing makeup makes you look professional, which I think is nonsense.

I've sometimes noticed people saying they put jewellery on for work as they think it makes them look more professional. Can someone please explain the thinking behind this? I really don't get it. I don't generally wear it as it just gets in the way, but I honestly don't see where this thought process comes from that it somehow makes you look more professional. It makes no sense to me at all.

I’ve never heard people say this. I do wear jewellery to work but not to look professional. I just like wearing it.

I’ve never heard this either. I wear jewellery because I like it and it’s special to me, I have no idea if it makes me look more or less professional.

Jewellery can tie an outfit together. I’ve never heard it described as being professional though.
