Husband is refusing to self isolate, help?

GrowYourOwnKids · 31/10/2020 07:50

What on earth do I do? I can hardly grass him up, can I? Lock him up? No.

Someone I work with has tested positive. Regardless of my own Covid result, I’ve been told not to come back for 14 days since last seeing her. I sent my own test off yesterday because of a slight temp but no sense of smell.

DC is fine. H is fine but that’s not the point. He’s going to work on Monday and thinks it’s ridiculous to stay back. He says he just can’t do the time off, sorry Hmm Doesn’t really help that his big boss is very blasé about Covid and doesn’t think it’s worth letting staff work from home for during the current time’s, even though they can all do their job at home.

H could even do his job at home! But he has lots of meetings in the week, apparently all within the company so can’t do a video chat.

What do I do? I’m really Fed up. I too think the whole thing is a depressing ball of crap but I won’t knowingly infect people.

I’ve just gone through a personal loss so really not in the right place to bollock him properly and demand etc etc

Unless he has symptoms, he doesn't have to self-isolate. I know this as I checked the guidelines when my son's bubble closed.

Oh I thought you had to? Surely it is common sense that if I might have it, he might too? Either way though he won’t be self isolating if I the test is negative or positive

He does need to self isolate because the OP has symptoms. However if her test comes back negative then he's OK not to.

You can't make him OP, it's just a shame that he's shown himself to be pretty selfish.

If you have symptoms yes he should be isolating but you obviously can’t force him too.

If you are just isolating as a close contact then he doesn’t have to isolate as well unless you show symptoms.

You would think so, but no. Everyone else in the household can go about their business as normal unless symptomatic. I'm a teacher and our HR are very strict on Covid stuff, but I was told I was fine to work.

Yes he does Matchsticks, his wife has symptoms and is awaiting the result of a test. He should isolate and not go back to work unless her test comes back negative.

He wouldn't need to self isolate because of your colleague - he should self isolate because you have symptoms and should wait for your results to come back. If you're positive the self isolation period would have already started if he actually isolated. I don't know how you can get him to do it - I'd be angry with my partner putting people at risk and if I worked with him I'd be fuming.

Contacts of contacts don't need to isolate he is tight, if you need to take a test because of symptoms then your household needs to isolate until results but whatever the result of your rest you need to isolate for 14 days ftom whenever you were a contact DH will only need to isolate if you get positive test

Only direct contacts have to SI.

If you develop any symptoms then you all SI till the result says negative.

The OP said she has lost her sense of smell.

The op has symptoms so the whole family isolates until she has a negative test result. It's not that hard to understand.

Op, fingers crossed your result comes through this weekend, it should do, so don't worry.

@GrowYourOwnKids The whole household has to isolate until you get your result. Not because of your collegue but because you have symptoms. If it's negative then he can go to work. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all - I have symptoms like I say, and I’ve had a test that I’m waiting for the results to come through - So shouldn’t he at least isolate until that’s negative, if it is?

But he’s saying either way, if it’s positive he isn’t isolating, and will only test himself if he feels he gets ‘sure fire’ symptoms Wine

Honestly, I’ve never seen him act like such a numpty before, ever. Not sure what he’s playing at

Had anyone tested on a Friday and got result before Monday? The one I did recently was just yesterday

I had a negative test a few weeks ago, I tested Friday but didn’t get anything back until Monday.

He definitely doesn't need to. I'm currently self isolating because a friend who I'd met for lunch has tested positive but nobody else in my household needs to.

He doesn't have to self isolate unless you get symptoms. You have to stay home for 14 days. If you get symptoms you test and they must stay home unless you test negative.

Apologies I must have missed the bit that states you're waiting for a test result!
Yes, he does need to self isolate

My son tested 9am Friday and we got the results 11am Saturday.

If you have symptoms he should isolate until you have your results.

If you are positive he has to isolate for 14 days.

If you are negative he doesn't need to isolate.

If you are isolating because someone you work with has tested positive then he doesn't have to.

Yes, he should isolate.

Report
bluebluezoo · 31/10/2020 08:29

If you get a positive test he legally has to isolate as he will be contacted by test and trace.

If he doesn’t, the T&T can send the police out to enforce.

If nothing else, this thread illustrates perfectly how poorly the government has communicated information about covid and what to do if you think you've got it!

How would the track and trace know he isn’t isolating?

I think it's a better illustration of a widespread inability to read an OP.
