Had to have a 'surprise' surgery after a scan this morning, feeling really sorry for myself and in alot of pain (stomach, laproscopy & keyhole surgery...😔)

Random chat anyone? How's things?

On a ward but right by the desk, so listening to the nurses chatting! Helping keep my mind off stuff but really sore and my head whizzing....

First night ever I've been away from My 1 & 3 year old Dds too, apparently I woke up from my general asking where they were...

Dads having a wobble because it the first night he's had to look after our girls without me there...

I feel like I need to ask for pain relief but had alot.....?

Find Dick King Smith HQ on twitter -- lots of amazing animal clips & pics.
Tiktok is good for those too, actually.

In other news,my DH tested negative for plague virus (results today). It was freaky trying to think how would we juggle our lives for next 2 weeks if couldn't get outside. Was my own little brush with unexpected everything.

Am very nosy so would love to hear about your medical adventure, OP. But only as much as you want to talk about it.

It’s shit being in hospital and you must be missing your girls (or glad of a rest?!)

Report

There’s no harm in asking and the girls will be fine, l bet they are a sleep right now. Could you also ask for ear plugs, l know the chat is keeping your mind off things but you need rest too.

Flowers don't be afraid to ask for more pain relief. You'll be surprised how much they can give you in hospital. And even if they can't give you any more right now, they can tell you when your next dose is due.

Poor you! Hope you get some rest soon.

So are the nurses chatting about anything interesting, of are they too quiet to hear properly....?

Try to get some sleep as this will help with recovery-easier said than done! I hope you feel better soon & be gentle with yourself. Having unexpected surgery, I expect you’re in shock. You’ll be home soon enough & all will be well. Flowers

Please ask for pain relief if you need it, also ask for something to help you sleep. Your girls will be fine

Do ask for pain relief.

As for distraction, where’s the best place you’ve been on holiday and where would you love to go?

Can you listen to any mindfulness meditations or breathing exercises? They work for me really well though you might not think they would

Please let the nurses know you are in considerable pain, they are there to help and might be able to give you something stronger

Greek Islands, mainly Rhodes & Kos, just beautiful!

Would love to take my girls to the States for at least 6 months! Never been, always wanted to travel there and have so many tick boxes to do there!!

Press your buzzer and ask if you can have more pain relief.
Say you need a wee - they might provide a bedpan or a commode to save you the walk to the loo.
Then, get in bed and if you have some headphones available, listen to something calming.
If you don't, try this:
Turn away if you can so you don't have lights shining in your eyes.
Get as comfy as you can.
Listen to your own breathing.
Breath in for the count of four,
Breath out for the count of four (sigh it out).

It will help relax you and maybe you can nod off.
Good luck!

It's a bugger (have had several overnights in hospital and laparoscopic surgery in the last year, so I know where you're coming from.)

Pain relief - diclofenac suppositories are the dog's bollocks specially if your surgery was upper GI and you're feeling sick/tender.

Do not go to the toilet on your own. They forgot to tell me the anti-emetics I was on made you woozy and I almost passed out on the loo. Ask for help.

If you've got some ear buds, iPlayer or Netflix on your phone is a blessing when you can't sleep.

Flowers get well soon.

If you do travel to the States, come to Massachusetts. There is so much to see here, and it snowed today...first of the season, we will be skiing and sledding soon.
Hope you are feeling better soon
