refusing to self isolate?

Just out of interest is everyone self isolating if they have been told they have to, or are some ignoring the direction to do this?

Just interested as I have seen lots of threads where folk say they won't stick to their local rules, so I wondered if this extended to self isolating?

I have Covid. All my family are obviously self isolating are are sticking to it.

Ds is 2 and had a cough last weekend. Got him tested last Monday, still no result. Cough has gone. We gave up isolating. I'm 99% sure he had the cough that went around his nursery.
Waiting 10 days for a result just isn't on. If the gov can't keep up their end of the deal by getting the results back, I'm not going to fuck up my life (more than covid already has) by sticking to isolation when nothing is wrong. And I'm high risk to this thing.
I simply cannot afford to take 2 weeks off work for the whole family for a cough

Pears what are the rules where you are? Are you supposed to isolate if you have requested a test? I wouldn't have thought you would have needed to in those circumstances? 10 days for a test result is ridiculous!

Yes, once you have symptoms you must isolate until the test result comes back, as must everyone else in the household

I don't think that is the rule here. It seems you only need to isolate if you have been contacted by track and trace or have a positive test.

I can see why such a small percentage would isolate in your situation as its very hard to do, and potentially you could be isolating on and off all winter.

Ive checked our guidance, and its the same here if you are displaying one of the 3 main symptoms.

Our Chief Health Officer has made it clear that you can still go about your business if you have a cold etc.

Plus our testing turnaround is 18 hours on average, so not too long to wait

I'm in Jersey but have just checked and you do need to isolate if you have symptoms.

My son goes to nursery and has had a cough pretty much since the winter months started. If I self isolated everytime he coughed id have been off work for weeks and weeks and weeks.

I should add, he has a cold.

No symptoms but was in close contact last Friday with someone who tested positive on Monday. I haven't had any notification but am isolating as much as I can - no gym, no shopping, no socialising, live on my own but I am coming into work - in my own car, working in an office on my own with window open, own toilet, own drinks etc. (Running the company at the moment and covering 3 peoples work ) Almost zero contact with other members of staff and never for more than 2 minutes at well over 2m distance. Disinfectant everywhere. Just in case. I think its all nuts - person who tested positive now has full on snotty cold and sense of taste has come back. Hoping it was a false positive tbh but I will still have to be 'good' until 7th November.

I will self isolate if I'm told to, as would Dh.

Two year groups have been told to isolate in dds primary. They're definitely not all isolating...I've seen a couple of them in the local park this week.

We are in second lot of isolation for a DC since school began, the rest of us could go and do what we want, but I obviously can’t leave a 7 year old at home alone. 4 weeks worth of isolation in 8 weeks
Despite it being half term, and being absolutely fed up of being in the house we have and will continue to stick with the rules.

so haven't track and trace been in contact? This is exactly the situation I am in at the moment and we have been isolating as a household since Monday

So the whole household doesn't have to isolate? Just the immediate contact?

You only have to notify track and trace of people who you were with for the extended period specified in the 48 hours before you got symptoms.So it depends when the person who tested positive on Monday first got symptoms

Yes just the immediate contact but obviously when that’s a child and you can’t mix households and have anybody sit in, we are stuck

My mum who lives with me tested positive last Tuesday (results thursday) obviously I have been in isolation since the results (she didnt have symptoms she works in a care home so it was a workplace weekly test) however nobody from track and trace has even been in touch with her, so I only have the app notification telling me to isolate. This means even though I am currently on universal credit (I'm a supply teacher and work has been ridiculously slow) and I can't work until 4th November I cant apply for the covid isolation payment. I can see how people would decide not to do this... however my morals won over my ridiculous lack of money and I am now home for 2 weeks on zero pay (I know its half term but its 3 days term time and I am also a qualified nursery nurse so have been offered some hours in private nursery as cover)

Were on our 3rd week of isolation after I caught it on day 12 of isolating for dds positive result. Dh and dd have another week to go.
Same as @Hannahfftl totally skint now but couldn't morally work knowing I can pass it on to more vulnerable people.

I was shocked to read the stats that only 10% of people actually isolate.

Of course I would self isolate. It pisses me off when people say they don't want to isolate - no one WANTS to isolate. I don't get paid if I don't work but I would never risk passing something onto someone else.

The government’s track and trace doesn’t work, so it’s relying on people doing the right thing.

Most people are not doing the right thing.

Which leaves those of us doing the right thing feeling pissed off and inclined to make our own judgement call about ‘self isolation.’

I personally have not been in this position, but if it happened I would keep myself well away from other people but I would not stay indoors for 14 days. I would still go out for a (rural) walk if I felt well enough because I think it’s ridiculous not to when you live rurally. I haven’t downloaded the NHS app because it feels like living in a police state.

When a system doesn’t work, people will make their own risk assessment, and that’s the problem, because most of those risk assessments will be hugely lacking.
