He's on R4 this morning, Saturday Live, talking about coming out and of course his new book. I think this is tasteless - he talks about the upset and trauma/impact on his family, yet he has the cheek to write a book about it and plug it on national radio! Not that he is short of a bob or two, with his TV shows and We buy any car.com (that offers as little as it can get away with for your car). It seems that little will get in the way of him exploiting any opportunity to gain publicity and make money - that is the view I have of him.

Yup. Why has Richard Coles given him a platform I wonder.

All celebrities write books and promotes them on tv. He’s no different to anyone else on that respect.

You’re entitled to your view.

I was half listening to that interview. Did he say if he’d always been/known he was gay? I got a weird impression (possibly because I was half listening) that he hadn’t known he was gay until recently which seemed very odd. Hopefully someone who was listening more closely can clarify?

I feel very sorry for his wife though. She has had the foundations of her life ripped from under her.

Yes of course I'm aware that celebrities write books and will promote them anyway they can. But considering what he has put his family through, I would have more respect for him if he dealt with this more privately ... rather than using it as an opportunity for more self-promotion and money.

I think he’s so self centred. Read something the other day about him complaining that Fern Britton didn’t call him when he came out, she called his wife. Well, yeah, wouldn’t you be checking in to see if your friend was ok given their husband had just made his announcement? Selfish git. Only thinking of himself.

Tbf we know nothing from his wife his daughter works for his management agency I don't think he will have written his book in secret.

I can no longer watch that grizzled auld tortoise.

If I want to watch the likes of Dancing on Ice, he is subject to fast forwarding. (Snap with Holly)

The way he went about his coming out seemed to be all about him when it wasn’t. His family appeared to be accepted collateral damage.

According to Joan Collins everyone in show business has know he’s gay for years. Which makes the sudden coming out to a nationa newspaper very interesting doesn’t it? I wonder why he did that?...

God, didn’t take him long to write a book? He only came out a few months ago, right? Bloody hell he must have an amazing brain to write his biography in such a short space of time. How clever you are Philip. Why make TV for housewives all these years when you could have been churning out three books a year instead? Move over Danielle Steel!

I had to turn it off. I quite often have to turn off Saturday Live though. I can't bear the cringe self indulgence when the guests get going.

I was wondering this too. I saw a multi millionaire TV presenter who is married to a multi millionaire on TV yesterday. I totally don't understand why they still 'work'. I mean if they were behind the scenes raising money for charity or something? Is it really just for the ego boost? I can't think what else they could possibly be getting out of it, the money must be irrelevant. I understand performers continue to do world tours but simply being on TV reviewing a dress or commenting on make up or something. Why would you?

I heard him on Chris evens show yesterday. I can understand it must’ve been difficult to tell people, but the way he talked about the build up to the coming out on this morning, him and holly in the dressing room. He talked about telling his mum, his driver taking him to his mums, his city flat and country house. He came across so privileged and self centred.

It will be written into his contract that he has to promote it. That is part of the massive inflated money he’s had to write it - that he will promote it.

So really he’s got no choice.

I mean, I think he’s a self-serving weasel but it’s not up to him in this instance. When the scandal broke they will have had lots of meetings about how this went down in terms of the book.

The book deal will have been done before ... and then they’ll have been scrambling to write those chapters.

Yeah, someone had some dirt on him probably and he preempted the kiss n tell by coming out live on TV. I hope his wife was already aware and not utterly devastated by the news her husband of many years preferred en.
