What age can I move my dc (7 years old year3) onto just a booster cushion?
Their head is higher than the high back booster....

How tall is he?

My tall 9 year old has outgrown one of his HBB but still fits in the second one. Most of them go up to about 150cm.

Legally its 12 years old or 135cm.

How tall and how much does he weigh?

"Since early 2017 all new booster cushions have been approved for Group 3 only, and must only used by children who are taller than 125cm and weigh more than 22kg."

Have you checked whether the high back booster headrest is adjustable and at the maximum height? (Sorry that's probably obvious!)

I'll have to weigh them tomorrow as I'm not sure....
The head rest is at its highest! Annoying as dc is not tall. Same hight as others in class/same age!

Booster cushion - as above, over 22kg and 125cm.

No car seat - over 135cm or over 12years.

Ds is nearly 11 and 136cm and still fits fine in his HBB.

If he has really grown out of the HBB you have I wokld look to replace it with another HBB

You can get high backed booster seats where the headrest goes up higher, not expensive ones either. Look at Britax Adventure or Diono Cambria 2, both about £30. The Diono is a bit more protective but the Britax is slimmer if you need to fit more people in the back.

Some other brands are really low down even on the maximum setting. That said it's OK for his head to stick out the top. If his shoulders are higher than the seabelt guide then it's too small.

He can go onto a backless booster legally at 125cm / 22kg, but I wouldn't recommend it as they have absolutely no side impact protection and if you ever do long trips or drive late at night and he falls asleep they tend to flop right out of the seatbelt.
