Bought a Lumie and hate it! Can you get used to it?

I loved the idea of it, but I had to turn the alarm off because it is so horrendously grating- did not achieve a gentle wake up experience!- and I'm finding it too bright in the morning.

Is it worth persevering?

Is it one that lets you set ultimate brightness? In mine you choose how long it takes to turn on but also how bright it ends up. I have set to about medium because I don't like the brightest setting. I'm not sure I would say it works quite how they day in terms of natural lighting but I like mine for being able to have lavender smell at bedtime

I just use mine for the light. I don't like loud noises although putting my phone to the far end of the room so I have to get up to stop it singing "Good day sunshine" does make it harder to doze off.

Try a longer sinrise. It's also a bit of an art trying to time it so you naturally wake to the right level of light at the right time.

I’ve had 2 lumie alarm clocks in the last 10 years but in fairness, they’re pretty shoddy. The alarm noise is awful! The radios never work properly and I’ve never got the hang of the snooze function for the light.

Anyway, I do still love mine for the birdsong wake up and I don’t find it gets too bright in the morning but it’s a pretty old model now.

This isn’t very helpful is it? Essentially I was going to look at a different brand when this one does but the blooming thing last for forever!

Turn the alarm off and just use the light function. That's what I do, the alarm is far too loud and undoes all the gentle waking up that I get from the light.

Also is it just me or is the screen really bright? I have to cover mine permanently else it keeps me awake... Gosh I’m being a huge downer on this sorry

What is it that you hate? I found them fiddly to adjust.

Yes it is. I have that bit turned away and covered over!

I love the idea but I have major issues with mine.

  1. the setting up/operation is NOT intuitive (its a pig)

2. to leave my partner undisturbed I have to cover to with a cloth when I leave the room as the display can't be dimmed.
  1. the buttons are so damned LOUD! whats the point in a silent alarm that irritates the hell out of your partner.

Al in all 5/10

I'm going to have to sit and read the instructions booklet. Gah.

I have adjusted the timer by 10 minutes and turned the alarm off so we'll see. I nearly rolled out of bed with the shock of it when it went off.

OP can’t you alter the volume of the alarm?

I have an old cheap model and that can be done, or you can wake to radio.

Hmm. I can easily alter the sunrise time, and I can turn the alarm on and off but can't master any more settings than that. It's the cheapest model so maybe it's not possible?

I was given one as a gift. Initially I hated the light, but now quite like it and like the birdsong alarm. But totally agree the display is far too bright during the night (I like to sleep in darkness and can’t now do this), plus the design of the buttons is ludicrous- focus on form over function. For the first six month I just used it as a clock radio as I couldn’t be bothered to reread the instructions to work out how to program alarms &c...

I love mine! Seem to be in the minority here! Yes i do have to turn it round a bit, the clock numbers are bright. But i find that by the time the "birdsong" starts I'm naturally awake, the light must do it's job. I still snooze it a couple of times, but it's much less of a grim awakening than my mobile phone going off used to be

I've had one for about a month and I like it. The alarm is quite loud even on the quietest setting but I've only tried birds - I think there are a few other settings for the alarm so will try some other ones.

Which one do you have? I love mine.
I go to sleep with a sunset so the display is dark at night
And.i wake up to sunrise and waves.

I’m a complete convert

Mine was the cheapest a few years ago and it can be done but it’s probably in the manual. It wasn’t intuitive to set up.

I managed to figure out how to turn the display light down - I think you press the plus and minus buttons under the clock display at the same time.

Haha I was being super negative 😂 totally agree regarding the light and birdsong though, such a gentle way to wake and I wouldn’t go back to a conventional noise alarm, especially in winter when it’s a godsend!

I think lumie might remain the best option on the market, my gripe is mainly that there’s a lot of functionality issues but really I’ve been using them since 2012 so I must like it really 😂
