iPhone/pad. Who knew you could do this! And anyone else got some useful tricks?

I’ve had iPhones and my iPad for years. Saw a clip on Facebook earlier that if you press and hold down space bar you can move the curser all over the page. WOW mind blown.
Just how many hours have I wasted deleting mistakes!

I’ve known that for a good few years.

Ooh you’re so clever @BashfulClam and the op isn’t!!

I just tried op!
Why did I not know this before so much time wasted!
Cheers op 🙂

If you long press the send button in iMessage you can send the text with an ‘effect’. Not that useful but something I inadvertently discovered the other day.

Strange. I just touch the screen where I want the cursor to go and it moves there. I don’t need to press the space bar.

Trumpton Sat 10-Oct-20 06:50:28

If you touch the top of the screen the whole page jumps to the beginning .

That's what I was thinking. Simply tapping where you want the cursor is surely far easier?

PlanDeRaccordement Sat 10-Oct-20 09:43:22

Yes, you just touch the screen and the cursor goes there.
Also, double tapping when writing brings up the menu to select chunks of text or select all the text so you can quickly delete as much or as little as you want to.

@AllGongNoDinner just being honest that I knew that one, get back under your rock ffs!

LittleBearPad Sat 10-Oct-20 10:02:48

The space bar thing is useful if you don’t click in exactly the right place.

Sometimes that is cumbersome and doesn’t work so use the space cursor if it’s being a dick and randomly highlighting things.

I did know that - from a similar thread on Mumsnet a while back. But I don't find it particularly useful!

You can screenshot just by double tapping the back of your phone if you've upgraded to ios14. Quite handy, do press and hold of multiple buttons, which 90% of the time ends up in going back to home screen (if you're like me!)

To set up, you have to:

1Make sure your iPhone has updated to iOS14.
2Go to Settings > Accessibility.
*3*Tap Touch.
4Scroll to the bottom of the page, and choose Back Tap.
*5Click *Double Tap > tap Screenshot.

*dont have to press and hold multiple buttons

Bluntness100 Sat 10-Oct-20 10:21:47

Long coffee thank you! That’s a good one, didn’t know that!

userxx Sat 10-Oct-20 10:25:23

@longcoffee Bloody brilliant!!

userxx Sat 10-Oct-20 10:25:55

I'm double tapping like a mad woman now 🤣🤣

CovidStoleTheRainbow Sat 10-Oct-20 19:34:57

I've got IOS 14.1 and 'back tap' isn't there

CovidStoleTheRainbow Sat 10-Oct-20 19:36:02

Oh woah yes it is. Just not where you said.

It can't just screen shot it can do loads of things!

TeddyIsaHe Sat 10-Oct-20 19:40:26

@longcoffee that is amazing!!

CovidStoleTheRainbow Sat 10-Oct-20 19:41:35

Nah nothing

One I learnt recently, if you hold the 0 down, you can access the temperature degree sign. 350°

SingToTheSky Sat 10-Oct-20 19:58:46

Thanks for the screenshot tip, DD1 is ridiculously excited by this. I think it’s pretty cool too grin

I knew the space bar thing (and it’s useful when tapping the right place doesn’t seem to work, which happens a lot for some reason) but only about a month ago when DD1 told me

SingToTheSky Sat 10-Oct-20 19:59:56

Blah blah blah °

Ooh thanks ladybirds that worked! Will be useful to do temperature related maths with DS grin °°°
