Reusable period pants

Anyone tried these? I've always had an issue with tampons but am getting sick of pads. Not keen on the feel of them and the environmental impact isn't great either. I've seen some padded, reusable period pants and I like the idea of them but they are quite pricey and not sure how many pairs you'd need, how to wash them or how many times you'd need to change them per day. Has anyone made this switch and how did you find it?

DD switched from pads to period pants. She tested two brands, was convincd and bought 8 pairs.
She wears them, washes them out in cold water and stores them in a wash net in our bathrom, they then go into the next 40° wash.

She didn't buy them all at once, but payed 160 € all in all. They are quite sturdy and look long lasting and she consideres it a good investment.

I've got the cheeky wipes ones which are only about £10 a pair, and i also use reusable pads. I soak in a bucket of cold water overnight and then rinse in the machine, then wash with normal clothes. I think they are great, with both pads and the reusable pants you need ones that fit well so I would buy one or two styles and test them out rather than buying a big pack straight away.

Modibodi amd cheeky wipes, I have to use modibodi on heavy days and the cheeky wipes ones for lighter days.

I have cheeky wipes ones, both the high waisted ones with the extra layer for absorbency for night time as they just feel more secure then the normal ones. About £10-£12 a pair.

I don't have heavy periods anymore and obviously you may need to change them in the day depending on flow so bear that in mind.

One of them WUKA/ModiBodi does one with side clips so you can remove them whilst still wearing tights or trousers. But yes these are expensive.

Best thing to do is buy one pair or two pairs and wear them at home to see how you get on before buying more and it is what I did. I bought Cheeky wipes because their absorbent liner goes all the way from the front waistband to the back waistband making them ideal for all types of bleeders (front, middle and back, ie where you bleed onto a pad). I have used reusable pads for over a decade and a cup.

I use modibodi and cheeky wipes. Modi better quality but not worth the extra cash. Cheeky wipes sell a waterproof bag you can keep all the dirty ones in till you wash them, which is what I do, then bung them in a cold wash in the machine.

They're amazing! Just don't get the American ones (thinx?) because you have to pay excess duty and the buggers don't tell you that in their website. As pp said, modibodi good for heavier days. Wuka and cheeky wipes more middling and Innersey for light days. They do seem really expensive but obviously in the long run aren't so if you can afford the cash it will save you money I'd have thought.

Do these work even with hideous periods (with clots)?

On my worst days and nights (3/4 days a month) I'm bleeding through a super plus tampax and a thick super flow pad every 90 mins/2 hours. Would I need to change pants a lot?

I have the Luna ones which you can buy on eBay or in shops, have a mix of the high waisted ones and the bikini ones, the bug pants are not pretty but v secure and comfortable . I used them with maternity pads in May after birth and by day 4 just used the pants, was changing three times a day so am to mid afternoon, mud afternoon to night and then one overnight . I've used last three months for heavy periods with no pads and had 0 leaks changing every 8-10 hours on lighter days and on first very heave day changing 8 am, 1pm, 6 pm and 11pm. For comparison I would use largest tampon and night time towel and change every 3-4 hours due the first 2 days if my period normally, and have heavy flow for 2-3 days out if 7 with a 25 day cycle. I've tried menstral cups and found them difficult, the pants feel much more comfortable and I don't feel sticky in the way I do with pads. I'm so glad I invested in them.

DD has had Modibodi and Wuka ones for over a year and is happy with her choice. I think the Modibodi ones have the edge.

She still uses a Mooncup as well on heavier days though.

I bought a pair from modibodi but i don't like the fit.i got the high waisted, high leg ones. They don't come up high enough and roll down over my belly. But I don't like the look of the leg fit on the full ones.
I have really comfy pants i get from tesco that come up high and have a higher leg and i would like ones similar.
I have tried reusable pads but can't get them to sit still

I recently bought a few (they were only about £4 each and came in a day and night version) and I really like them.

I use them mostly at night because I absolutely hate the feeling of an enourmous night pad that goes all the way up to your arse lol. I use the day ones during the last days of my period when I'm not losing a lot of blood and a pad or tampon is not neccesairy anymore but normal underwear would get stained (hate pantyliners too).

So far they work well and I like the idea too that they're not as bad for the environment as normal pads. I only find it a bit rank to throw them in the washing machine with the rest of the stuff so I rinse them in the sink with cold water first.

I have really heavy periods and I use a combination of cheeky wipes period pants and a reusable pad too. Seems to work well and I feel more secure. I still have to change my pad as often as disposable ones but I believe it is an investment for the environment and pocket in the long run. I roughly worked it out that one period pant was about 3/4 of a period price for disposal cost for me. So in time (approx 6months for what I brought) I would be saving money too.

The cheeky wipes comes with washing instructions but pretty much as pp have said.

This is like me and why I can’t imagine a pair of knickers would absorb plus the clots which are awful

Just to add, the WUKA period pants are currently on offer (reduced from £20 to £16) at Sainsbury’s; you’ll find them in the aisle with moon cups and other period products. I have invested in a job lot for my pre-teen who started her periods just as she returned to Y8. They have been brilliant and have given her extra assurance to help manage her period while at school. The packaging on the ones she has says the pants will absorb three tampons’ worth of flow, but I think there are different absorbencies.

The Sainsbury’s prices seemed much cheaper than the cost per pair on WUKA’S own website.

I’m keen for her to try the LoveLuna pants at £10 each, but they never seem to have the right size in stock. Interestingly, the LoveLuna pants at our nearest Sainsbury’s are in a display stand in the women’s underwear section.

I combine Innersy period pants with a mooncup, in case I misplace it.

The Luna are the ones I have,bought on eBay. I sometimes have large clots, they don't absorb so tend to head to loo and brush them off pants with paper. If I think I need to change I'll take a spare pair of pants in a wee drybag, but only had to do that a couple of times. Think I paid about £10 each, have 8 pairs now but bought over a couple of months. They will pay for themselves within 6 months. You can hand rinse and throw through a quick wash without fabric softener. Mine say they absorb equivalent to 4 super tampons. I'm really impressed.

I use a combination of a cup, cheeky wipes period pants and cloth pads. I definitely prefer a cup for when I'm heaviest and have pads/pants as back up then use just the pants by the end of my cycle. I wouldn't go back to disposable items if someone paid me to, cloth and cups are so much more comfortable

I have 3 pairs of period pants, 4 cloth pads (2 heavy, 2 regular) and one cup and I never run out
