What can DS eat with his new fixed braces?

DS had a fixed brace put on top and bottom teeth yesterday and is struggling a bit with it hurting and also with eating.

What can I give him that's easy to eat, am struggling for packed lunch ideas in particular!

It has only been a day it eases off. But dd ate tuna sandwiches (white bread) afor lunch the first few weeks and then could eat as normal obviously nothing too chewy or seedy .

Anything very soft. DD also found that cold helped (she ate a lot of yogurt and icecream and drank a lot of milk/milkshakes). Cooked veg and fruit (cooked till mushy).

Can he take soup for a packed lunch? DD actually found she could eat most stuff as long as she cut it up really really small. So she managed sandwiches but just broke them into small (bite size) pieces.

Will he eat cold pasta? That with some sauce and tuna would be easy to chew and not as likely to get stuck in his braces.
Yoghurts, Custard, Smoothies are all easy to eat when your mouth is sore and high enough calorie to fill him up.
In a week or two he will have the hang of it, there is nothing you can't eat really except maybe boiled sweets.
Just need food that needs to be bitten into in bite size pieces. So apples to be chopped, sandwiches can be pulled apart and just put a chewable size in your mouth etc.
Salad type foods do get stuck in the brace so if he is self conscious maybe keep them for home.

It honestly doesn’t take too long for them to get used to it. Maybe pasta salad? I remember DS couldn’t bite into anything hard, although he was fine with chewing, preferably things with not much resistance.

(I think I started a thread asking exactly the same about 7 years ago - he’s now at university and has nice straight teeth!)
