Facebook Question re friend requests

Bupkis · 30/09/2020 14:32

I've just had a friend request accepted notification from someone...when I hadn't sent a friend request. Has this happened to anyone before??

Now I've got a whole Facebook etiquette situation that I didn't bloody ask for!

Any chance someone else was using your phone and accidentally hit the “friend request” button on a suggested friend on your feed?

If you’d rather not have them as a friend, either add them to restricted so they can’t see anything, or delete them and if they ever say anything, blame Facebook glitchiness.

You did send them a friend request, maybe you pressed it by accident or ages ago?

Probably an accidental one when you were scrolling. Block them and pretend it never happened.

Do you know this person well? In what capacity? If it isn't a strange person to have requested then I'd just assume you accidentally clicked on request and move on.

You've probably done it by accident. I've done that a few times. It's far too easy to do

That's the odd thing, I didn't even know this person had a Facebook account! so I'm not sure how I could have done it by accident.

It's someone I can offend (normally I'm not that bothered!!)

@ShellsAndSunrises
When you say restricted - is that something is have to do each time I post?

That keeps happening to me! I blame my husband, as he sometimes uses my Facebook account and is likely to click ‘add friend’ by mistake. I haven’t deleted them yet as I’m too nervous Confused!

I did this once and got a message from a stranger. I just said it was a mistake and then removed them.

If it’s a relative then just put them on a restricted list so they can only see your profile page but nothing else.

....stupid question. How do I put someone on a restricted list? Stupid question 2... Will they know they're on one?

I'm so glad it's not me!
It's daft, Facebook is sort of saving my sanity at the moment, and o just don't want any awkwardness!

It happened to me a couple of weeks ago. A man who lives a few miles away accepted my friend request - which i hadn't sent to him. His wife cuts my hair sometimes but I'm not even friends with her on Facebook so I don't know how I could have sent a request.

It happened to me. Bit embarrassing as it was my son's highly private girlfriend. She accepted my friendship request even though I had not requested her friendship. Or rather, must have done so accidentally. It is easily done. Facebook suggest friends for you based on who you email, live near, friends of friends, etc. Anyway, we are friends now, but she is one of many o my restricted list. No they don't know they are on it. Just customise who can see your posts. You only need to do it once, and then check that when you post, it is set to your customisation, rather than to all friends or everyone.
