Lol dolls

I cant believe I'm asking for help here

My dd (5) has asked for some lol dolls for Christmas, all the girls in her school play with them and I think shes feeling a little left out.

Anyway, they look awful to me, not something I'd want to buy but hey ho. From what I've seen they bring out slightly different varieties every year but I'm guessing they are pretty much all the same? Theres a glitter series, a lights series, are there any which are better?

Can all the outfits be removed from each type and put onto other ones? Do they always come in surprise balls so you never know which one you're getting?

Thank you in advance

They are all crap, make your peace with that Grin

Overpriced, annoying crap. But yes, generally they have outfits, shoes and accessories that can be removed and swapped between the dolls. You don't know what you'll get unless you buy the bigger OMG dolls so it's a surprise every time.

They're all tat.

Things to be aware of, some of them change colours when stripped naked and dunked in hot or cold water.

For most that means they get leggings or a swimsuit, for some they get a bikini or fishnets which are a bit trashy. You can generally tell which ones will be more innocent based on the range, the 'leather and lace' ones are less innocent than the glitter disco ones.

Also some spit, cry, or wee when you fill them with water using the included drinks bottle.

Clothes are interchangeable amongst the lot. Lils and pets aren't as interesting to DD, they don't have as many accessories and interchangeable clothing.

They have 3 layers of plastic wrap round the plastic ball and each accessory and the doll are individually wrapped in plastic so you'll need to plant a tree to overcome the eco guilt.

Over priced shit.

My six year old has a few. She wanted more last xmas and sil bought her a bundle of already opened ones from EBay. Much, much cheaper way of doing it.

My daughter has also asked for lol dolls but after googling and seeing how inappropriate they are I have refused and I'm going with Barbie instead!

I used to work in a toy shop and every little girl loves them but they're so expensive I think. You never know what you're getting so you could end up getting the same doll and/or clothes. I know a lot of mums would swap dolls on facebook because once you've opened them you can't return.

Thank you all for the replies. Dd does have some barbies which she loves but atm the other girls dont play with barbies just these horrid things.
I've seen ones that come in a pretty square box so I might just get her two of those to start her off this christmas

I’m not a fan as they are really overpriced!

My daughters also like the Cry Babies Magic Tears as they’re a bit bigger and also cheaper but nice quality and you can collect them😊.

Aren't they a bit gross though? Dunk them in water and a peep-hole bra and fishnets appear? Is this normal for children's toys nowadays?

Report
Redwolf1 · 30/09/2020 14:19

Imo childrens toys are getting more and more gross. Everything poos or wees. Thankfully my dd is equally disgusted by the pooing unicorns etc. I'll buy her two lol dolls this christmas to keep her happy and hope that she will happily go back to her barbies soon.

But a doll wearing "lingerie" that wees or spits - Isn't that a bit... niche for kids?

There are different kinds

You’ve got your LOL big sisters in just ordinary balls. They don’t really do anything special apart from colour change

LOL lights have a black light supplied with the ball so that parts of the doll glow

LOL hairgoals have “real” hair

Glitter series are covered in glitter

Then there are lil sisters which are cheaper and LOL pets which all have different kinds too.

The big sister outfits will fit in other big sisters and yes all random

The square box are the present surprises (which are 12 different dolls) but make sure you get the actual present surprises and not the one that only has two different dolls in.

Soubriquet · 30/09/2020 14:45

this is the one with 12 different dolls sold separately of course and this one and This one are the limited edition and will only contain the same doll. So two different dolls but the same in each box

Wait, so if you buy the OMG doll, you DO know what you'll get?

DD really wants one but I am surfing line between being that mum who never lets you get anything fun and definitely NOT wanting the bra and fishnets one... DH would prob just chuck it.

They are plastic tat but my 9 year old absolutely loves them and plays with them for hours and hours.

They are on her Christmas list again this year.

My dd was desperate for these and completely underwhelmed once she got them...I found them shoved under the sofa and I chucked them in the bin!

If you buy one of the limited edition, which are usually more expensive (the last two I’ve linked) then yes you know what doll you will get.

The green one will always contain a sprinkles doll and pet and the pinky one will always contain Miss Partay and her pet. But these usually cost more than £20 each. You can always get an orange(captain BB) and pink(sailor qt) bubbly surprise that only contain one particular doll each.

However; the normal ones are a complete chance

Thanks, that's really helpful. What does the BB stand for?

That's nothing new. Tiny Tears was a big seller in the 70s, as was Baby Alive.

It’s just a name.

So Captain BB (sounds like beebee) is what the dolls name is

I saw the videos of these being dunked in water to show them wearing ‘secret’ fishnets and lingerie. Not really the lingerie a kid needs to see tbh. I find them gross.

That was a very small selection of dolls and actually went with their character.

So a punk rocker doll wearing bra and pants like all of them do, and then fishnet type lines in the legs. Not stockings just tights

Santa brought my (now) 5 year old one last year....and he WON’T be bringing any more!
A total waste of money. I point blank refuse.

The OMG dolls are the big barbie style ones for about £30. It'll tell you on the front of the box which one it is.

My DD loves them! She is not really aware of the fishnets or anything like that so I think it goes over her head.
