He's just a terrible old wanker with extreme right wing views is he?

I don't know very much about him apart from he comes from the famous Fox family, he was married to Billie Piper, he was in the TV series Lewis alongside Kevin Whately, and he made a racist arse of himself on Question Time last year.

So what's he up to now? Has he gone even more off the rails?

Don't know much about him but a quick google seems to suggest he's running on Free speech / anti cancel culture ticket which frankly as a politically homeless lefty I can potentially get behind.

I think his life has gone off the rails in the last few years and that he might need help/counselling to deal with it. I also think he might be being manipulated. I don't much like him or his, frankly rather silly, views but I think he is mostly just messed up. Some of the photos of him, he looks ill and haunted.

He is definitely not right wing.

I've always liked Laurence Fox and he is a good actor. It was sad that he and Billie Piper broke up but that was some time ago, she has moved on and I thought he had a girlfriend. Not that that is everything.

Lawrence Fox - the person who used his platform to lash out publicly at a female friend when she blocked him on Twitter. He posted screenshots of text messages between them.

www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/laurence-fox-mocked-moaning-pal-22660850

As someone said:

"The irony of the situation did not escape another, who wrote: “The irony of that plank Laurence Fox claiming to be 'cancelled' by someone silently blocking him, then posting their private texts with a clumsy but out of context turn of phrase in it - essentially trying to cancel them instead"

I can imagine the response on Mumsnet if a male 'friend' did that to someone.

I am glad that someone is prepared to offer an alternative view and challenge the cancel culture. It’s a breath of fresh air. I’m watching with interest.

Ok if you say so Jesstan - but he's a bit odd isn't he?

And for someone who thinks he's been cancelled - he sure seems to have a large platform and media appearances to talk about what he thinks and to express his views.

Still, no doubt he'll appeal to some people.

Yes I'm sure we all know what sort of people he will appeal too.

Racists mostly.

Well I'm in Ireland so I can't vote for him but I think he's interesting. He is obviously motivated from genuine frustrations to recalibrate. I agreed with him when he was flinging his head in his hands. So yes, it will be interesting. It will be watchable.

The guy who complained that there was a Sikh in a WW1 film.

Or got hacked off because when racism was talked about, he dismissed the view that there was an element of racism and misogyny behind the media reporting on Meghan Markle and when told he had 'white male privilege' , he got annoyed.

I wonder what his views on feminism are? No doubt he has issues with trans people - but I wonder what his views on feminism and women's rights are?

I watched that question time. I don't remember him making a ''racist arse'' of himself. I thought he was sticking to the biology of the biological men are not women line which to me is a basic truth.

Not the behaviour I expect from Hathaway!

I think he started to get in with Fathers For Justice when he got divorced and it's spiralled from there.

He did some interviews at the time about his mental health not being good, not seeing his son and not understanding why he had to give Billie so much money.

And then he launched his 'music' career singing mournful songs about how much he missed his wife and how unfair his divorce was. Only he was so untalented apparently he had to bail himself out with £70K of savings.

The more things go on, the more one feels Billie did well to get out when she did.

I'd love to know how they all get on at Fox family dinners. Are they all behind him? Do they disagree with him? Do they respect him, or find him a bit foolish?

Ummm

That was about Meghan Markle

When a white male dismisses someone talking about racism and then gets lauded for it, well, I am sure some people will lap it up.

chomalungma · 28/09/2020 22:21

And yes - he is correct that he can't help being a white male.
He can listen to people when they say there is racism.

@WiserOwl it was the QT debate about whether Meghan Markle had been treated more harshly by the press because of her colour that people are referring to.

No doubt many will.agree with some of his ideology but starting a political party? I can't see it ending well for him.

I suspect he would have an issue with women talking about sexism and saying that something is sexist.

And would dismiss women's concerns about sexism as well.

Report
kirinm · 28/09/2020 22:26

He's a troll. He lost his work due to the QT appearance and has made himself look like a total prick since so unsurprisingly, people aren't interested in offering him work. His music is awful and self-funded. He trolls on twitter with his MAGA hat and #alllivesmatter bullshit.

He's awful. And as far as I can see, this is all to get attention.

Report
chomalungma · 28/09/2020 22:26

Still, good for him for starting a political party.
I hope he opens himself up to debate, up to scrutiny, detailed questioning and discussion of his views on issues like feminism, women's rights, workplace issues, the roles of parents, families, equal opportunities, custody issues, domestic violence etc.

Report
tinkerbellvspredator · 28/09/2020 22:26

I haven't followed what he's done since but saw that QT and thought he embarrassed himself.

DH always thought Fox was a twat, which I thought was a bit unfair seeing as we dont know him, so he was v smug to be proved right.

I'm sure the Tory donors who have bunged him £5 million to start a new party will be shocked to discover he isn't right wing ConfusedHmm

Apparently starting new right wing parties is all the rage right now anyway. When I looked on his twitter, his keenest followers were upset that they would have to pick between his and about 3 that had just launched.

Perhaps they all need a new home after UKIP/Brexit party.

I think his current job is to reinvent himself as the Katie Hopkins/Nigel Farage of the Arts and Culture.

I follow him on Twitter because he can be quite funny but in recent months, he's become obsessed. I genuinely wonder if he's doing ok mentally.
