DD1 is Y3, 7yo. I am not a fan of screens because they turn my kids into monsters so dc don't have Kindle Fires or anything similar.

However the junior school have an app for homework, and the homework so far has been to do a few levels on a maths app. These apps won't download onto our ancient ipad which leaves my phone or my work laptop.

I don't like sharing Grin so I think we need to get something specifically for homework. But what? Parents WhatsApp group informs me apps are glitchy on Fire. Buying a ipad for a 7yo seems ridiculous but other brands are pretty much the same price. Is a Chromebook an inferior version of a laptop? Every Windows laptop we've ever had eventually grinds to a halt because the antivirus software eats the processing power.

What does everyone else do?

My ds uses a Samsung tablet for homework which works well. I use a chrome book for work and they are horrible.

We use a chrome book for this stuff as it works well. Loads of threads on chromebooks if you search

I would recommend a Samsung tablet cheaper than a chrome book and also worked with Bluetooth keyboard for word etc.

My sons school has just signed up for google classrooms for homework, and if they need to lockdown/isolate again. Weve bought a chromebook for him to use for schoolwork as our main PC had died, and it seems to be fine. Its not going to be good for playing games/video editing etc but he has other devices for that. I wouldnt want to use it for much more else.
