Friends resurgence

What is with the resurgence of Friends themed tat? A show that is dated, doesn't translate well into 2020, and frankly one that I thought no one watched anymore?
I have seen all manner of branded things recently, from clothes to mugs, to Christmas tat to cakes even.
Anyone else seen this and baffled?

I’ve seen it and I love it! Best show ever :)

It's on Netflix and the viewing figures are huge. HUGE. It's not just millennial nostalgia either - a couple of years ago my year ten students were quoting it at me.

It's for a whole new generation now. Dd is 10 and her and all her Df's adore friends!

How weird! I saw an episode recently and thought how badly it had aged - hackneyed jokes and quite a lot of jokes I’d assume would fall flat with “woke” young uns!

Friends is still funny. It’s our background tv when we’re not really sitting watching. I love how you can dip in and out at any time and still get the storyline.

I loved friends back then and now. Don't buy any merchandise though but don't see any problem with it.

Watched a bit recently and was surprised how racist, homophobic and disablist it is. Didn't notice the first time around.

Not my cup of tea but people obviously enjoy that kind of thing.

I find highlighted clips funny now but not so much watching a whole episode - and I speak as someone who had The Rembrandts' single and would wait with anticipation weekly for the new episode!

They were fairly surprised when I quoted it back at them, anyway.

I think a lot of the current school age kids are quite anti-woke, actually. They're sick of identity politics being shoved down their throats, sick of being told to feel bad about something all the time. Friends is funny, they like it, it makes them laugh and it doesn't shove any political agenda in their face. It's glamorous enough to be aspirational (NYC living) but juvenile enough to be relatable (hanging about with your mates all day).

My dc are 11 & 14 and have watched the whole series multiple times, as have their friends - they think it's hilarious

They can also do the Ross & Monica 'routine'! 🤣

Dd has a couple of tops with the logo on

I have a plate from the first time round that originally also had a huge cup like the ones you use at breakfast in France but only the plate survived and I keep it as it is perfectly sized for toast Smile

I should say though the set was a Christmas gift I didn't buy it.

You mean you’ve been to Primark, OP Grin

@DrinkFeckArseGirls it's everywhere tbf, online, in Asda - probably all the supermarkets to be honest, H&M, Debenhams and likely many more. That's just the places I've seen it this week (I've been nowhere near primark in over a year)

My 12 year old is obsessed with it. I agree that it's very dated and of it's time but she finds it hilarious.
