How to become a school office administrator?

I've been working as a teaching assistant for 6 years. I'd love to get into the office and am confident it's a job I can do well but I don't know where to start! Most of the jobs advertised ask for experience which I don't have, but how can I get experience? Due to staff absence due to covid I was working in the office the last half term before summer and have been in the office all this week. My manager knows I want to become an AO and they've been impressed with my work but I can't really put that on a cv can I? I've got 7 weeks of experience. How can I improve my chances? I've done receptionist/customer service work but that was years ago...

Yes you can put those weeks on your CV. it shows willingness. I would make sure you get all the unpaid experience you can.

Working as a TA will help, any experience in a school will. And you do have experience even if it was a while ago. You can only try. And yes to getting any office experience you can, it all looks good. You've nothing to lose (school office here).

I got my school admin job through a recruitment agency, I didn’t have any school experience but did have admin experience. An agency is a good bet for at least getting you an interview.

Thank you for your encouragement! I will get in the office as much as I can, even if it is unpaid. I'll look into agency work.

A Business Administration qualification may be a good idea. Most admin jobs I see want this or a lot of experience. It's pretty easy to do tbh.
