My daughter is in yr2 and she has shown a lot of interest recently in the newspaper and asking questions about the headlines - want to get her a more age appropriate version! What are people's thoughts on The Week Junior or First News for an almost 7 year old? She is an advanced reader. Thanks.

The Week Junior is great. My 8 year old and 5 year old read it

Thanks @britnay - it does look really good, such complicated things going on right now that I want her to have an age appropriate but truthful account. Sometimes I struggle as she asks so many questions!

We loved The Week Jr. DD was about the same age when we started getting it and she would jump on it as soon as it came through the door. They had a great way of covering but explaining the big stories, even political/terrorism etc. without scaring them. Totally recommend it

Week junior deals with the big issues really well.

We've had First News for about a year after DS (7) started reading it at school. He likes it a lot and reads it every week but we haven't tried the other one you mention.

I prefer the week jr. The articles have gone well when I use them in school.

We get The Week Junior. DS disappears with it for hours after school on Fridays! When it arrives!

Their reporting of the covid-19 crisis was superb. In late March when there was a lot of gloom and fear in the world, I remember saying to a colleague “I wonder how they’ll report this? ”. The front cover and lead article the following week focussed on “Acts if Kindness”. It was perfect.

I don’t know First News, but I couldn’t hesitate to recommend TWJ.
