Ideas for 13yo DS 'teen-style' bedroom

We are about to do up DS's bedroom for his 13th birthday. Getting rid of the bunk bed, all the childish stuff etc. He has a light grey painted wood floor but we need to repaint the walls. It's quite a small room and not that light... what colours would you suggest we do it in pls... it needs to look cool and not too kiddie... and also needs to stay until he's 17!! I've looked at blues but some just look nursery-style. Green too. Grey just feels boring. Help! What do your teen boys have?

DS has a grey stag duvet and a fluffy rug. Grey walls. A banksy print on the wall and a black and white Star Wars canvas. Looks pretty cool

Thanks! Where's the stag bedding from? What sort of grey? Light?

Similar colours to this - he has a giant red round cushion to. To prop himself up on

Stiffkey blue at farrow and ball is a terrific blue. Looks awesome when it's up. Grown up but definitely not boring. Everyone comments on it when they see it. Don't waste time on cheaper colour match service, if budget doesn't stretch to F&B all over then put it on one or two walls, do the others white.

A wall grid is a nice feature (I used a black one but they come in other colours to suit). Allows DS to personalise the room and put stuff up without ruining the walls or committing to anything permanent.

I find curtains the trickiest. Watching the thread to see if anyone offers any good ideas for that!

My son is 12, he has 3 dark blue/grey walls and one feature orange walls. Our house is very beamy so he has remote control led lights all along the beams. Light grey carpet with a large grey rug with orange stripes. Black habitat folding table and matching chair. He's asking for a double bed now though so may be rethinking it soon!

Oh and bedding orange and grey from John Lewis, orange metal fil8 g drawers for his school books and cube style wall unit so he can display things like his lava lamp, etc.

Get a double bed if there's room. He may not be bothered now but will definitely want one by the time he finishes school.

My DS is a bit older but has personalised his room by having framed posters of retro games things like Pokemon, it's easy and cheap to replace them if his tastes change.

Agree with the Stiffkey blue, it's very striking.

No room for a double bed, sadly... he's got a drum kit in the middle of the room at the moment. He might be bored of that by the time he's a huge teenager so might be able to get him a double in a few years.

Some great ideas here! Love Stiffkey blue. Gorgeous colour! Also orange accents too.

DS has a ‘small double’ - it’s 4ft wide, perfect for a teen if you can fit that in rather than a full double?

Needs to fit in an alcove... I've measured 100 times and it won't fit, sadly...

We compromise about colour by having white walls with one or two in a more dramatic colour. Jury is still out about the colour and which wall.

Look for spotlights as lamps.

Maybe framed poster on the wall or these collage picture frames with photos he likes, we have two in the house and change pictures on a regular basis.

Good bookshelves and if he collects anything look for a case with glass doors, helps keeping stuff cleaner than having it all in the open.

One of mine has cream walls and a brick feature wall(paper) with his guitars hanging on it.

The other has very pale grey walls with a dry stone wall effect and all his climbing ropes/lamps etc hanging off it on metal hooks. Camouflage bedding.

Both have Black furniture. Metal shelves.
