I bought my 15 year old son a t-shirt, without asking. I chose it. He not only declared it to be "poggers champ" Hmm but he hugged me and said thank you!
It's a miracle Grin
What was this shirt I hear you ask?
Plain black shirt with the immortal words "Country roads, take me home" printed on the front Grin

Grin

My 13 year old went to a car boot sale on Sunday and came back with a whole load of really fab “granny jumpers” - all with St Michael’s labels. Grin

I have successfully taught my ds 16 how to catch spiders instead of getting me out of bed at stupid o clock to remove them...

So many questions....

What is poggers champ?

Where is the country roads quote from?

But most importantly, HOW do you teach dc to catch spiders?!

Are you based in the SW? According to DD the sing of choice on the school bus (pre lockdown), was John Denver Country Roads as the bus made its way through the villages!Grin

I have no idea what "poggers champ" is, but it's " better than pog champ " apparently...
The shirt was less than a tenner from eBay too! Grin

We're in the North East. Country Roads (the John Denver song) is very popular with the teen boys though, as is Africa by Toto. They all know all the words and break into song at any opportunity Hmm Grin
My 13 year old DS has asked if he can have one too and normally one wouldn't be seen dead in a shirt the other one likes...

This thread is officially great!Makes me laugh to think of a load of young lads singing 'country roads'.

Got ask , is it the John Denver version or the newer dance version ( can't recall who it's by ) that him and his mates like ?

Either way OP you are deff winning at the whole parenting thing Grin

Thats ace. Well done O.P.

I once gave my kid a home haircut, it was alright like. He loved it and was CONVINCED it made him look like Luke Skywalker (it didnt) and said it was the best hair cut ever Grin I happily took the accidental win!

Toots and the Maytals did a cover that is way better than the original too.

I suspect your son is a fan of RTGame on Twitch. As am I. I also covet the Country Roads t-shirt with the picture of a city about to be hit by a flaming meteor. It's totally poggers,

My last hit was a "Platform 9 3/4" sweatshirt, some years ago.

I haven't reached those dizzying heights since.

I think she's waiting for my designer gear to go out of fashion, come back into fashion and then be bestowed upon her as hand-me-downs (she can jog on).

Your lads a gamer isn't he? Pogger from Twitch. Btw, we are in Manchester and my Ds also 13 sings the John Denver version daily Grin. It means he's in a good mood

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 23/09/2020 19:20

They are both gamers, so I expect that will be where the poggers thing comes from Grin
It's definitely the John Denver one they sing, they harmonise and everything ! Grin

I have had one hit with a shirt. It was a black t-shirt that said "I was going to get dressed today but then the Fire Nation attacked and everything changed!" It is based on the Avatar animation series which my grandson loves. And talked about all the time. So when I saw the words "Fire Nation" I recognized the meaning. He has outgrown the shirt but he still keeps it. It's called "the one grandma got right"Halo

Report
Oldbagface · 23/09/2020 19:39

Yes yes OP. The harmonising is hilarious along with the fact my Ds has an incredibly deep voice and a cute baby face. Bless them.

Wasn't it a theme tune to some a Netflix series lots of them watched? I might be imagining that Grin

My teenagers like Bob Ross and apparently he is very popular. Bizarre.

I've just said this on another thread but my proudest parenting moment was recently when lockdown gave me the time to sort out all my old clothes vac packed and stored. My DDs were all "oooh" and "ahhhh" and are now prancing round in 90s platforms, cropped T shirts, velvet dresses, tie dye etc.

Makes me feel a bit fucking old though. Wasn't 1995 last week or something?

A Stranger Things Hawkins Middle School t shirt got me major brownie points last Christmas. I love when we get it right. It's so rare now they are teenagers

RunningFromInsanity · 24/09/2020 15:43

‘Take me home country road’ is sung at a very poignant moment in the Kingsman film.
That what most teens reference it to.
