Car Seat Help!

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me! Does anyone on here have a Mazda 3 Hatchback? I am struggling to find a car seat to fit in my car, which leaves enough room for the front passenger. My little boy is 9 months old, 19lb and 72cm long, he is currently in the Cybex Aton 5, this car seat will last him for another few months so this new seat won’t be required for a while but I just wanted to start looking as I knew it was going to be a pain finding one that fit in my car! I have tried the Joie Spin, Maxi-Cosi Mica, Joie Stages, and they are all far too big, I physically cannot get in the front passenger seat. We tried the Halfords own brand spin seat and this seemed to fit fine but I am a bit worried about buying cheaper brands? I would like to rear face for as long as possible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Smile

How much do you need that seat? Couldn’t the passanger sit at the back ? Have you considered a extended rear facing one which take more space but are safer ? Also babies need to be rear facing by law until 15m so you still have a few more months to go. I’ve got a Mazda cx5 and have a rear face for my 2.5y boy. I can get myself in the front but we tend not to use it as it’s small with the seat.

We had this issue ... we got a new car lol.

I'm only partly joking. We turned my eldest round at 12 months (pre law change) and had to get a new car when daughter came. We are both tall and it was impossible for my husband to drive long distances with both car seats in.

We got a ŠKODA kodiaq and we all fit with room to spare

Yes I suppose the passenger could sit in the back but I would prefer it if we didn’t have to do that, especially on long journeys. I am looking into ERF seats too, it is just finding one that is compact enough to fit in my car. Which seat do you have?

@Twizbe This is what we thought might have to happen but really didn’t want to buy a new car until we have another child. I was hoping someone with the same car might have found one that fits.

I’ve got a axkid minikid 2.0. I can just use the front seat

We are going to look at an Axkid seat tomorrow but I don’t have much hope that it will fit! I have also read that the Britax Max and Britax TWE are compact seats so might have to give them a go too!

Yes Max Way should fit. That's one of the most compact seats. The 25kg ones are more upright so need less space than the 13 or 18kg ones.

I'm surprised you couldn't fit the Joie Spin - we have a Joie Spin following an Aton 5 and find the Joie takes up less room than the Cybex did. We were using the Cybex on a base, though.

I don't recommend the Halfords one as it doesn't do well in third party testing. It also only rear faces to 10kg or something stupid like that.

Thank you everyone for your help. We tried the Axkid Minikid 2 and it fits perfectly, I was so surprised how much leg room I had in the front passenger seat when it was installed, probably more than the infant carry seat! I think even my partner will Di t and he is 6ft 3! Hopefully this post might help someone else with a Mazda 3!

Yay glad you like. The minikid is my answer to pretty much any car seat dilemma, it’s an awesome seat!

Britax Two Way Elite. Give the In Car Safety Centre a call. They should be able to advise.
