Using a fake name in Starbucks etc... anyone else do this?

I went out with friends today and we grabbed a takeaway coffee and brunch from a local cafe. They needed a name for the order so I gave mine. As I walked away I noticed it felt weird cos normally I give a fake name in this sort of situation, if I’m alone. But as I didn’t want to appear a weirdo in front of my friends I didn’t on this occasion. My fake name is always the same one and is in part because I don’t like my real name and feel this one fits me better. It also became a habit when people repeatedly misheard the name I was giving, so would always cause confusion when calling out this wrong name when my order was ready. My real name is not hard or unusual but somehow this problem has never arisen with my fake name.
So I’m curious, does anyone else do this or am I just a weirdo? 😆

Yep! But I pick random names, very rarely the same one. My own name is unusual and I don't want to give starbucks my name anyway.

I've thought about it, but never do it because I'm always worried I will forget I've given a fake name and them be standing there like a spare part waiting for a coffee. I have a very short memory.

No but I saw a famous politician once struggle with this issue in Starbucks, trying not to use his real name as it would be quite unique 😂

Yes, I am always Jo or Sam. My real name causes confusion and I can’t be arsed with the hassle..

All the time. I can't be bothered to spell or explain the pronunciation of my name just so I can pick up a coffee.

Always. I chose a name I fancy for that day - back in the days when I would drink there. Everyone I knew soon did the same.

I use a shortening rather than fake. I use it for other things too where I would rather people not know my legal name. Dp calls me it so hardly odd

Yes I have a taxi, Starbucks and takeaways name because mine is frequently misheard and this one is easier.

Ah interesting, seems there’s a few of us! I always go by the name of Kate. I’ve thought about using different names but would worry about forgetting which one I used! Went on holiday alone just before lockdown and basically lived as Kate for the whole duration and really liked it!

I use a short form of my middle name which is far easier to say and spell than my first name. Pre-pandemic I was being greeted by my pseudonym in a coffee shop near work, would have had some explaining to do if a colleague had ever come in with me!

Yes - Princess Sophia as a fake name here, and when people query it I explain that Princess is the first name, not the title Grin

I always do this too and pick a name that's ridiculously difficult to spell, but they would never ask as it would be offensive. They always guess 😂 Haha!

I'd never thought of doing this but I'm definitely going to start 😂 now to think of my new name...🤔

I have done it a couple of times but usually when I am the only person in the queue. I just can't understand why they need my name when I am the only person ordering.

I like Starchild as they always struggle to call it out sincerely

Yes when your name is Angharad it's just too much hassle to have to explain the spelling and pronunciation every time which they inevitably get wrong anyway so just give them the name 'Jo' instead.

They never get my name right so I always use my middle name.

Always use a fake name for this and when calling for a taxi. Much easier than trying to spell either my first name or surname.

I always do this. My name is difficult to pronounce/spell so I use one that works well in most languages.

Ha, do it!! So long as you claim your double caramel grande skinny machiatto with a rousing shout of "I AM SPARTACUS!!"

I rarely go in a Starbucks now but I used to give a name close to my own but easier - mine tends to be misheard and it's awkward.
