E-bikes: have you got one? Tell me about it!

We’ve ditched a car as a result of recent happenings and I’m relying on walking and public transport. Both great.

But I’m wanting something to give me a bit of a boost when needed. Have looked into an e-scooter but have found out they’re illegal on footpaths or roads.

So now I’m considering an e-bike. I am a very occasional cyclist - I.e. comfortable on a bike and aware of rules of the road.

I welcome recommendations.

I fantasise about an ebike too but am probably too nervous on the road.

I have this one: www.halfords.com/bikes/electric-bikes/carrera-crosscity-folding-electric-bike-750632.html
Though bought it two years ago when it was £800.

I absolutely love it! Such a joy to ride, I used it practically everyday to get to and from the office (10 miles each way) + weekends around town. Quicker than getting the tube a lot of the time! So great to just turn up to places without getting sweaty or getting crammed onto public transport. When the sun is shining it's beautiful, and when it's not, well, I just wrap up nice and warm.

Originally I thought I would only put the battery on when I 'needed a boost', as you say, but to be honest it's too heavy (almost 20kg) to ride without assistance...if you wanted a light enough bike you'd be looking at thousands of pounds.

I would go and try one out, you won't regret it!

Ah thank you! My commute is similar.

Really excited about it. Checking with work to see if I’m eligible for the ride to work thing.

I cycle a lot on a normal bike. But I hired an ebike on a trip last year and it's such fun! Everyone trying it just had a big smile on their faces.

Sorry, no advice about brands - probably the more you can spend the better. But they are lovely and still give you exercise.

We'd hired them in Austria in the summer and were cycling up hairpin bends with no effort. Overtook a MAML with a wave!
At home it's a great way to get around; effortless up small hills and yet you still feel like you're cycling.
The battery should be removed when you park it and you can re charge it at work perhaps? The range is 40 miles.

I bought one during lockdown. I bought a mountain bike, great for roads, trails and woodland. Mine is from Decathlon and was around £800. The battery is a great help!!

I've not bought one yet, but am currently researching. There's a lot more to it than first meets the eye - so many different types of battery and motor to consider. I've not decided on a specific bike yet but am leaning towards something with the Fazua Evation system. The reviews of bikes with this system very good and the big advantage over systems where the motor is in the rear hub is that it doesn't impact on getting the wheel off when you need to change an inner tube.

We live in an extremely hilly area so I wouldn't be without mine.

OH bought one he is loving it. I am finding it too heavy but that might be the make it weighs 25kg that is four stone to manoevre. I can ride it but have to get off to turn left or right.

These people were so helpful, well the lady there is. Living in Wales we have a lot of hills.

I have a Trek Verve electric bike, it's amazing. I got it from my local bike shop. Excellent service and advice from Highway Cycles in Hertford. They had lots of models to choose from and good after sales service. I firmly believe you get what you pay for.

I love my ebike so much.

Do you want to take kids on yours? Do your shopping with it? Carry a load of stuff? Then check out the TERN GSDs. We replaced our second car with one and use it at least twice a day.
