What did/are your 9 year old girls getting for their birthdays?

Reading - what are your 9 year olds reading. She's not keen on Harry Potter
Writing
Dance (does ballet - tap and modern)
Swimming
Plays violin and piano.

Very sensitive and intuitive - loves stationary!

9yo dd1 loves her skateboard and rollerblades atm. She still likes lego (she's particularly into the harry potter sets which may not help you) and gravitrax. And she likes magic tricks (the ones aimed at adults not kids) and board games (particularly Labyrinth, Dobble, Carcassonne, Hive and Tatsu).

Re books, recent hits have been the Murder Most Unladylike books, Lightning Girl and the Tracey Beaker books.

  Murder Most Unladylike (Robin Stevens)
  Ottoline (Chris Riddell)
  
• Dotty Detective (Clara Vulliamy). Easy reads but fun and v likeable character... who loves stationary!
  Mallory Towers (Enid Blyton) not everyone’s cup of tea, obviously, but if you like this sort of thing then it’s a good series.
  The Worst Witch (Jill Murphy). Well-known but there was an addition to the series published two years ago.
  
  Individual books:
  
• The Ordinary Princess (M.M. Kay)
  Gobbolino the Witch’s Cat (Ursula Moray Williams)
  
• The Magic Half (Annie Barrows)
  The Secret Lake (Karen Inglis)
  
• The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (E. L. Konigsburg) This is quite quirky and is set in US so some contextual words that daughter might ask about, but I think it’s a really good thought-provoking story.

Oh! And another non-book item I would highly recommend is Bananagrams. Can also be enjoyed by adults, and great to take on holiday (about the size of a pencil case).

My DD also loves books and couple of favourites have been the worst witch series and the dirty detective series. She’s younger than your DD though at 7.
What about a children’s sewing machine? She sounds very similar to my DD and she’s taken up sewing in lockdown and absolutely loves it.

She got a Nintendo game, Lego, a stack of books (David Walliams, Jacqueline Wilson, Tom Gates, Amelia Fang, The Girl Who Speaks Bear, Charlotte's Web ), an ipod (I wanted to get her something to play music on and DH said an ipod was the thing, but I hadn't realised it could access the whole internet and she uses it to watch youtube videos of people playing minecraft all the time, I really wish we hadn't got that), a smart sketcher.

She likes books, Harry Potter, Lego, stationery, Sylvanian Families but they are her younger sister's, Minecraft, other Nintendo switch games, cuddly toys, Marvel. I bought the board game Labyrinth last Christmas, but she rarely plays it but 5 year old DD2 and I enjoy it. She also got the VTech secret diary last Christmas which she loved for a while but I haven't seen or heard of it for ages.

Books: I recently bought the A Place Called Perfect trilogy by Helena Duggan, which she is really enjoying. The first one was only a couple of pounds when I was browsing Amazon one day, but the other 2 were more expensive.

Think I need to stop buying my kids things throughout the year so much! Realised they have so much - that's why I think I struggle for special occasions (also why we just have so much stuff that causes me a tonne of stress).
