Please can you recommend a place to visit during our journey to Cotswolds from Warrington?

Myself and DH are visiting the cotswolds on Monday for a few nights and we were after a recommendation on somewhere to stop between Warrington and Cotswolds on our journey down there.

Check in isn't until 5pm so we have the whole day!

The location doesn't have to be half way, it can even be right outside cotswolds!

Are any towns worth visiting, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewskbury, Leicester??

Any recommendations welcome!

(Also welcome whilst we're there in the cotswolds!)

Very slight detour, just been to Shrewsbury it was lovely.

The following info a few years old and pre Covid:

Gloucester docks maybe but I wouldn't do the town centre

Cheltenham nice but parking may be an issue

Depends where in Cotswolds you're visiting during trip but the following are fab if en route and you're not planning separate visit

Stow on the Wold
Cirencester
Burford
Bourton on Water ( but been in news about too busy this week)

Enjoy!!!

If you like walking, I recommend the walk to British Camp on the Malvern hills. Fabulous views and an Iron Age hill fort, what more to life is there?

Thank you so much for your reply!

Were staying just outside bourton on the water, slightly worried after seeing all the articles saying how rammed it has been! Hoping the children going back to school will ease off the crowds!

I will have a look at those places, I've heard Shrewsbury is lovely!

The Trentham Estate is only 2 miles from junction 15 of the M6. The gardens and lakeside walk are beautiful, and there are a few places to eat, plus a shopping village.

@Ricekrispie22 trentham Estate looks lovely, do you know if you have to pay to gain entry?

Malvern Hills. Ludlow or is that too much of a detour?

Leicester is a bit of a detour?
Cheltenham is lovely.
Or any of the villages in the Cotswolds mentioned above
Worcester maybe? It’s not too far off the M5
Echo Stratford, but it does get busy, so check out the park and ride

If you want a coffee stop just off the M5, Webb’s of wychvold is handy. It’s a huge garden centre, with riverside gardens to wander around. The restaurant is busy at the mo, but there’s a good foodhall and “grab and go” coffee bar, you can drink/eat in the gardens

Yes to go into gardens/lake and I think quite pricey. You get free access to a large garden centre and retail outlets, but I think there are nicer places to stop (we live off M6 just north of there). However, the Bourton area is lovely, so I would head straight there and do a walk.

We stayed nr Bourton last year and did some lovely walks around the Slaughters (upper and lower) ....there’s a lay-by on left just past A429/A436 junction, then you head down the Windrush way just past there.

The Stow on Wold / Swell villages are also lovely to walk around.

Leamington spa, Kenilworth and Warwick are just gorgeous. Once you are at the Cotswolds try to go to Stow on the Wold to see the oldest inn in England and the tree with a door! I love the Cotswolds!
