DD11’s First Day At Secondary

I was amazed how calm DD was this morning ( she has a history of severe anxiety around school & other things). I think it helped that DH & I had been talking very calmly in the days leading up to her first day, reassuring her that we absolutely had her back. I actually felt really tired & ill today so I wonder if I had been working myself up without even realising it. Anyway, when I collected her she seemed ok. Complained that she hadn’t made any friends. This is never a problem for DD so I said that it was only the first day. It’s an emotional time but she was SO ready to go back!

Yay! I'm so pleased for you all that it went well!

I'm a secondary teacher and we had our year 7s in today too. Had the whole range from tears before the day had even started to hands up in assembly with the head teacherSmile

My DS1 has also started secondary school this week. He has a lot of difficulties with anxiety. He has been a total star this week. He has walked to meet his classmates and walk to school with them with no tears and very little panicking.

I truly think that I am far more anxious about all this than he is. I am also far more worried about him starting secondary school than I ever was when I did it many years ago.
