Safe to eat?

I had a grocery shop delivered on Friday which included a party dip selection - you know the type, four dips like garlic, sour cream, what have you, to dunk crudites or tortilla chips in. I got it to use this evening for when my friend comes round but I've just seen the use by date is actually last Friday when it was delivered. I'm very 😡

I've not opened it, do you think it'll be alright if I open it just before she arrives, check it smells okay and that it's not 'fizzy' and serve if seems fine? Or shall I launch it into my compost bin whilst wearing a hazmat suit???

Taste it. You'll know straight away whether its ok or not. Id definitely eat it. Im sure it won't be fizzy at this stage.

I would try it if it was for myself if it was one day out of date, but not sure since it's been 3 days. I definitely wouldn't serve it to other people.

This is why I don't like to eat at other people's houses... personally I'm really careful about use by dates and would be really annoyed if you knowingly served this to me.

By all means eat it yourself if you want to...

Same, I dread eating at other people's homes because of the chance they'd serve expired or old food. Would much rather eat nothing than something that could potentially give me food poisoning. Fresh dip mixes are also high on bacteria breeding as they have effectively been opened and repackaged...not the same as vacuum packaged cheese or heat treated foods.

If covid has taught us anything, why risk anything that could have a potential chance of making someone ill. Prevention is the best option

I'd try it and see. If you think it's ok be honest to your friend and say just seen the sell by date I've had a quick try and this k it's ok but i totally get it if you don't want it but option is there

This is why I've never ordered food online

I wouldn't use it but I an strict of expiry dates and I def wouldn't serve to someone else just incase. Ask for refund as well from who you bought it from as they should have longer than that

No. If you want to eat it that's fine, but I wouldn't serve it to others knowing it's out of date.

Thanks guys! I've just flung the contents onto the compost heap and have popped to the shop for a fresh, in date selection instead! I didn't bother tasting it, I shall complain to the supermarket instead!
