My house stinks

I'm absolutely gutted my house is stinking. Got up this morning and stood in a wet patch on kitchen floor and realised I could smell urine. Automatically assumed it was one of the animals but it smelt more human like. Mopped it up with bleach water. Short time later I'm back in the kitchen and I find 2 urine soaked tea towels, one by the sink and one poking out the tea towel drawer. I now realise this must have been ds12. He did something similar before years ago where he got up in the night and tried to pee in the kitchen but I was there and was able to stop him. Ds slowly had come to realise that today's pee must have been him and not the animals like we first thought. Cleaned the kitchen.
Went out for the day, came back and got a whiff of urine whilst walking through the hall. Put the tea in the oven and 20 mind later the whole house is stinking like cooked piss. I've no idea where he has peed and I'm gutted my house smells so disgusting Sad I don't even know how to clean it nowSad

Poor you, that's not nice. What's going on with your son?

Do you understand why your son is peeing in the house like this and not using the toilet?

I think he was sleep walking. He can't believe it was him but its pretty obvious it must be and he thinks it's hilarious about the oven.

Ok. Time to put an alarm on his bedroom door then. If he opens it sleepwalking, it will go off.

:(
My DS sleep walks sometimes too and lives in fear that he will pee somewhere awful while he's at a sleepover. I once had a cat pee in my toaster, I didn't realise it was pee (thought I'd splashed it with water) wiped it off and made toast so I can totally empathise with the cooked piss smell. No great advice, just solidarity.
Although scented candles and scented disinfectant like zoflora will help.

Time to ROAR that pissing sleepwalking is not funny. Not that his issue is wrong but that taking no responsibility or laughing is beyond unacceptable.

Motion capture alarm with a siren would be a start.

Are you sure he is actually sleepwalking though?

Alarm or baby gate on his bedroom door.

My mum said take him to the doctors but I didn't think a it was something to worry about. He had a couple of sleep walking things before but spaced out over years so I've never felt worried by it. When he was very little he took night terrors where it seemed like he was awake but he wasn't and he would just cry and cry then go back in to a sleep state like nothing had happened and not remember at all the next day.
I think it's from not getting enough sleep.

I can't be angry for him for sleep walking. Not like he is even aware he's doing it. He is definitely not aware and I don't blame him at all. I have been poking fun at him for it but he still can hardly believe he's done it.

Biological washing powder in a bucket of boiling water, mop all the hard floors in the house. Pull out table and chairs, fridge etc so you are getting all floor surfaces. Leave it a day. If the smell is just as bad then it’s on a carpet or rug somewhere. You need to try and sniff out the location. Once located, biological washing powder again. Scrub. Rinse, stomp dry with towels then spray white vinegar over it and leave to dry.

Vinegar is good at getting rid of the smell of urine, although obviously you need to find where the smell is coming from.

I would empty out all your cupboards. Clean then check to see if its inside a y pans ect. Like any lower cupboards. I'd be putting all tea towels in the wash. Maybe use bicarbonate of soda for the smells and also clean everywhere down with white vinger or zalflora for pets, that has a beautiful smell and gets rid of everything

I've always sleep walked. It's very rare these days, but I recall it really ramped up when I got 12/13.

May be be laughing out of embarrassment? What ever, there is really nothing he can do to control it, so maybe you have to look for interventions you can make.

The thing I've found about sleepwalking is that my actions seem totally reasonable at the time (taking all my bedding into my parents room, bathing with no water in the bath) but I'm also very biddable.
So on the rare times I do it now, DD just tells me it's time for me to be in bed, and off I go.

Good luck

Oh, and advise him to never, ever sleep naked. I learned that in a B&B in Turkey

So did he pee on the tea towels and then put them back in the drawer whilst asleep? Or did he try to clear up after himself and just shove the mopping towels back into the drawer?

I agree with an alarm on his bedroom door. Do you have any Zoflora? Everything out of the cupboard, wash with bio washing powder and wipe over with dilute Zoflora.

It’s probably urine that has run underneath the cupboards and possibly oven. You might have to take the kick boards off and have a sniff, is your over integrated or freestanding?

Report
Delbelleber · 30/08/2020 20:18

It looks like he used the tea towels to clean. It probably has gone under the kickboards ConfusedEnvy. Oven is integrated.

That’s good, integrated will make it easier to clean under. Get the kickboards off and see what you’re dealing with.
