Bento/compartment lunch boxes

my 2 want to have packed lunches this year. Ds is worried about the lunch queue in these times and DD new school is going to have the children eating at their desks so they can have packed lyncges if they want.

I'm after Bento/compartment boxes, fun or stylish that don't leak there's lots of choice but nothing is quite perfect.

Ds uses a sistema one.

Is that the single layer or double?

Dh who is total clutz uses the sistema ones.
Tk max or Sainsbury’s do them. (And amazon!)

Yumbox. Ours have been going strong for 6 years. Smile

We use systema too - sometimes hard to think what to put in the last compartment!!

It has a bottom layer that I put a sandwich in then on the top I put a biscuit and a snack item for break. I put fruit in the 2 squares. It comes with a screw lid round pot too but dh pinches that for salad dressing for his packed lunch

We've got a stainless steel Bento box which has a removable divider. I put a sandwich in one part of either fruit or salad in the other.

We like Mepal bento boxes. They look stylish too.

Another vote for the Sistema ones. I take my toddler out to visit family once a week and can stuff it full of things to try and tempt the palate 😁

Yum box here too, ours are brilliant. There are different layouts available - my kids like to pick at different foods so they have the tapas style ones while DH and I have the sandwich ones.

I use Sistema too - but not the smaller ones as above, these ones: Sistema

Another vote for yumbox here. Not cheap, but last for years.

My DC use the ones @MollyAtTheFolly and @dementedpixie do, they're really good and really hard wearing.

I've gone a bit mad here and bought the following systema ones for my kids who all have to have packed lunches this term, all seem great: sistemaplastics.com/news/entry/bento-range-to-go

although the 1.76l one is quite large and maybe a bit big for primary school. The 1.25l is a bit small so I'd say the 1.65l is the one to go for and fits perfectly in a lunch box/bag.

I also got this bigger lunch cube as well:
sistemaplastics.com/products/to-go/2l-lunch-cube-max-to-go-with-yogurt-pot
which also looks great, but quite chunky, the bento boxes will be easier to put in school bags I think.

The 1.65l bento box is the same one molly linked to, I got it in tesco last week. Rest from Amazon.

Thanks everyone. I saw the yumbox recommended on a pack lunches thread. They certainly get really good reviews.
The tapas style one is probably more versatile especially to carry a snack as well.
Do the Sistema ones let you have say a yogurt?

The sistema ones have a screw top pot that comes with them that you could put loose yoghurt into but there is definitely room for a normal size yoghurt pot as well I'd say.

I have one like this

www.amazon.co.uk/Baifeng-Portable-Microwave-5-Compartment-Plastic/dp/B07FQRSH3P/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&s=kitchen&keywords=bento%205%20compartments&qid=1598710644&sr=1-3&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

It's not flexible but, theoretically, it's easier to make a balanced meal,
1 X carb
1 X protein
1 X fruit
1 X veg
1 other

I also have small screw top jars and bottles from the proper bento shops so I can have salt / vinegar / salad dressing.

I also have a black lacquered one bought for me in Japan which would be useless for a packed lunch.

The Sistema boxes are half price in Tesco just now. They have several different varieties on offer.

The sistema one comes with a screw top container which holds a good amount of yogurt. Works well for us as we tend to buy a big pot. Tesco and Asda pots fit but we have had the odd brand that didn't fit well.

DS used the cube through primary and found it held plenty, he as a growing tean hes got the mid sized one now.

We use Sistema too, they wash and wear well and don't seem to taint.

I went to JL and a large Tesco neither had the Sistema boxes I wanted to look at so I'll probably order on line
