Help me break my snooze habit

I’ve developed a terrible snooze button habit - can snooze it for over an hour which is a terribly waste of time and leaves me eventually getting out of bed grumpy and feeling already behind/late/frazzled.

What handy ‘life hacks’ can I deploy to actually get out of bed the minute the alarm hits?

Have a big glass of water before bed so your bladder forces you to get up.

Move your clock out of arms reach.

I’m a snoozer, but unhelpfully mine is due to poor sleep quality. I do not sleep well therefore I do not wake up well.

Seriously though, do you need to be up for a particular time? I find it helps if I think about what I need to achieve and by when in the morning, then when I wake I know what needs doing and don't lie there just dithering/procrastinating. Put out tea-making things so you can make a cuppa as soon as you get up. Slippers by the side of the bed. Go to bed a bit earlier.

It takes massive discipline. I'd snooze for hours given half a chance because I have sleep apnoea and haven't received my cpap machine yet so I wake up tired.
I set the alarm for a sensible not ambitious time, put the alarm across the other side of the room and when it goes off I leap out of bed no matter how horrible it is, turn the alarm off and get straight in the shower.
Once you're up and in the shower you start to feel human again.
Either that or get a cat, the cat will wake you up at the crack of dawn.

You need an alarm that you have to get out of bed to turn off. I had to do this when I was in a shit job and struggling to get up.

Change your mindset - while it feels delicious to go back to sleep, what you're actually getting is an hour of poor quality sleep before you have to wake up. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to set the alarm an hour later and have the hour as quality sleep?

I do a bit of a compromise. I use an app which makes me scan a Barcode to wake up. I pair it to the Barcode on the hand-wash or my toothpaste (when you get a new brand you can just change it). It's set to allow me 2x 10 minute snoozes, then it won't turn off until I scan that bar code.

Being in the bathroom makes me want to wee and then I brush my teeth to wake me up a bit and by the time I've done that, I'm awake enough to talk myself out of going back to bed.

I hate mornings!

My alarm went off at 6, I was relatively awake, been snoozing ever since and now feel tired and groggy
I do have sleep issues and was still awake at 1230 so know working today I’ll be tired. So jealous of people who sleep soundly

I set mine but keep it at the other end of the room so I HAVE to get out or bed to turn it off. Once I'm up I'm up.

Agree with others, move the alarm so you HAVE to get out of bed! It would more beneficial to have an quality sleep for that extra hour than constantly snoozing an alarm.

The problem with putting the alarm at the other end of the room (for me) is that I'd have to make it really loud to be bothered enough to turn it off and then it would be annoying to other people in the house including neighbours!

Also I found I would turn it off and then jump back into bed! Blush it needs to be the Barcode one in order to make me move rooms.

The snooze limit I set btw is hard coded in the app, I don't have to rely on my sleepy self to enforce it.

Set alarm for half hour later.

If you can snooze for an hour you can afford the time to split it.

Have alarm out of reach.

Have everything ready to do when you get up and have a routine.

Think about it this way. You get to fall asleep again which feels great. BUT you have to go through the unpleasant process of being woken by the alarm over and over again. If you get up the first time, you only experience that cranky, horrible waking up feeling once! And as someone else says you probably aren’t benefitting from the extra rest you get because it’ll be crap quality sleep.

Also you could try having a nice breakfast you actually look forward to. That helps me.

Get yourself a clocky alarm clock on wheels. I had a similar one for a an old bf back in the day that shot a propeller up the air and the alarm wouldn't stop until you retrieved the propeller and plugged it back in 😂
