How do YOU make the best bacon sandwich?

I went to a (fairly new) friend's house yesterday for brunch and she made bacon sandwiches. It was wholemeal bread, buttered and toasted, with a little pot of runny honey on the side to dip it in to. I was puzzled at first but fuck me was it lush.

Got me thinking about my own best bacon sangers. If I'm feeling basic I like plastic bread, loads of lurpak and loads of ketchup.

If I'm feeling fancy it's gotta be thick cut untoasted granary. Again with lurpak. Bacon, avocado, a few chilli flakes and maybe a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

What are your winners?

Seeded bread with real butter. Crispy bacon and loads of Worcestershire sauce 🤤 preferably also with a fried egg sunny side up :-)

Nice thick, white bread (not the pre-sliced crap), grilled bacon (no flabby white fat) and some really good chutney or chilli jam.

Failing that, French bread, bacon and ketchup.

Big NO to butter - there's enough fat on the bacon.

Thick white bread, proper butter, well done crispy bacon with lots of fat soaking into the bread with a decent dollop of ketchup. Hmmm

If someone else is making it an egg and some black pudding too!

English Mustard, butter and good bread (any type).

Really soft white sliced bread, grilled bacon totally crispy but not burnt, real butter and ketchup.

Intrigued by the honey thing, that actually sounds really nice!

Very thick sliced white bread with a proper crust but no flour on top.

Thick cut bacon with the fat trimmed off and cooked until just crispy

Ketchup spread with a knife

Streaky smoked bacon on cheap warburton's white bread (the blue packet). Salty butter optional, ketchup is not. Tastes like the morning after a uni night out...

Dry cured smoked back bacon, thick slices of unbuttered white bread, pile the hot bacon onto one slice, briefly dip the topping slice in the bacon juices. Fit together and eat while hot.

I like bacon lettuce and tomato too, buttered bread layered with crispy lettuce, layer of sliced tomatoes topped with mayonnaise, good layer of bacon, topped with buttered bread. The butter helps hold it all together. Serve with extra mayonnaise if needed.

Baguette with crispy bacon and sliced tomatoes. Tiny smidge of whole grain mustard. Or that honey mustard dip that dominoes pizza do.

There’s a coffee shop near me that does a bagel with bacon, halloumi, avocado, chilli jam and a fried egg. It is one of the most delicious (and saltiest) things I ever tasted.

White bread
Salted butter
Smoked back bacon
Ketchup or brown sauce

Prefer it with a fried egg as well and sometimes I add a slice of burger cheese or a sausage

Or bacon, mashed avocado, tomato, lettuce, mayo and finely sliced red onions in crunchy french bread

The most important thing for me - double bacon. So in an ideal world:

Morton roll
Four slices of crisp, not burned, smoked bacon
No butter
Brown sauce

Thick white homemade bread, bacon, ketchup, mayo and mustard.

Good additions for me can be;

When we went swimming with kids and my nieces, they did the best bacon butty brunch ever in the cafe afterwards.

Rosemary foccacia, bacon, tomato ketchup and mushrooms on mine. The foccacia had been split and griddled in the bacon pan so was warm and crispy and a slight ooze of delicious bacon juices, tons of bacon and mushrooms - was so tasty I have never forgotten it - and it was about 12 years ago now!

Thick white bread, buttered
Lots of back bacon, fried until the fat melts
Run the bread round the frying pan
Serve with a mug of strong tea. Can add a fried egg into the sandwich too.

The Regency Cafe behind Victoria Station does the best.

DH uses a brioche roll, a few salad leaves, very crispy bacon with not a trace of fat, a smear of mustard and Hollandaise sauce.

Rather like Eggs Benedict without the egg.

Delicious enough to make me stray from my usual vegetarian diet.
