Random bank credit from Vodafone?!

TheMichelinLady · 19/08/2020 08:12

I have been a Vodafone customer for many years, spending £10-£15 per month. I've just checked and they've paid £9.56 into my bank account. But it's not the bank account that my direct debit comes out of, and I have no idea why they would need to credit me! I did previously use that account to pay my Vodafone bill, but changed it a couple of years ago. It's very odd. Any ideas?!

Yes,us too. They've credited us with £19.06. We aren't Vodafone customers so very odd. We're waiting for it to be recalled.I'm sure someone will notice the mistake at some point.

That's even more odd @Snazzysausage, I wonder how that's happened! Someone will be having a very bad day at Vodafone today Grin

I know, the only connection I can think of is that we had Vodafone broadband about 3 years ago but only for 2 weeks as it kept cutting out up to 6 times a day. We've changed banks as well since then and as I say it was around 3 years ago so doubt it's that!

Glad u posted this, it really worried me, i'm already suspicious of topping up my phone with Three... Then few days later seeing this, i thought my card might have gotten stolen, i dont deal with vodafone, why would they credit my account!

I had a random credit for £15 today into our joint account.

I can only assume it was the refund from the contract my husband cancelled 2.5 years ago and as far as I can remember we didn't receive.

I just started a thread about this and a poster suggested to do a search! We've had 2 odd payments this month and last month from Vodafone. My kids had sim only with them but we cancelled these over 2 years ago. Strange they are doing this with no explanation.

The fact they are still keeping our personal and bank details all these years for no need or reason is a GDPR violation.
will have to call and ask for my details completely wiped out.

I got paid £20 odd pounds the other day too! The only thing I could think it was for is after I cancelled my contract a few years ago and I forgot to chase them for what I was owed as a credit balance.

I have been credited £24 this morning?? Haven’t been with Vodafone for about 3 years? Glad it’s not just me.

I’ve just been credited £6.16 but I haven’t been with Vodafone for years. Did anyone find out what it is?

Actually thinking about it when I was with them I was entitled to a NowTV subscription which I never used, them when my entitlement expired they started charging me for it despite me never having set up an account. Perhaps it’s things like that they’re in trouble for

Another thing I thought it could be was refunded call charges that were made when we had to call their customer service centres. It was a long time ago but I seem to remember how awful it was trying to contact them. Hence why I have no wish to contact them now.

For me the refund equated to a monthly bill £16.20
I do remember that they owed me money and argued that i wasnt entitled to it, so i just dropped it.

Any update on this? I got a £4.32 credit from Vodafone on 21 August. I was about to alert my bank because money FROM Vodafone just doesn't happen and I was worried someone else had got my bank details. I have been a customer but not for about 3 years. I left them because they unfairly charged me for a call that I couldn't have made, ironically.

I received a credit of £1.12 this week, very odd as I’ve not been a customer for a few years now.

Glad i've seen this as I got a random £15.80 into my account this morning despite not using vodafone since 2017! I was quite suspicious until I saw this, so thank you!

So glad I stumbled across this! I received 2 payments a few months ago despite cancelling with visa phone last year. Mystery solved!

I've also had a credit from them of £19.95 and I've never had an account with them?

Pleased to read others have received these random payments. There have been two small credits from Vodafone made to our joint bank account in the last month. Haven’t had any accounts with Vodafone since 2016. I did notice the ref numbers quoted on the payments matched our two former Vodafone account numbers.

I've just found this thread and wondered if anyone has had a bill now sent to them for the same amount credited?
Like you, I also received a random credit of £6.74 a few weeks ago from Vodafone after my account had been closed for a year. Today I have received a bill for the same amount from vodafone with 'Account Closure Adjustment' cited as the reason.
Pondering what to do now - I don't want my credit rating ruined but equally I am annoyed by this!
