Trick or Treating ?

Will your family be going out this years Halloween ? Or will us killjoys get some peace this year ? Also our towns official fireworks displays are cancelled this November 5th. Yess , I thought but then won't people just buy more home fireworks for home use ? I hope not my dog hates them .

Only joking, I agree with you, fireworks keep the kids awake, and trick or treating is a pita.

I won’t be taking my boys out. We did it for the first year last year, which ds1 absolutely loved, but we now have a good excuse not to do it this year

Hadn’t thought about trick or treating. I suppose we’ll see where we are with Covid nearer the time. It’s one of my favourite times of the year so it’ll be a shame if it doesn’t end up happening. My DC are always very polite and only visit decorated houses. I’d assume that anyone who doesn’t want a visit wouldn’t be decorating anyway! As for fireworks I may well have a few in the garden. We’d do it fairly early and don’t have any pets or babies living near us.

We’ve got a doorbell we can mute!! Best Buy ever! Saying that I don’t mind kids coming trick or treating and love firework night but I think this year they’ll both not happen to the same extent atleast.

No doubt Boris will say Halloween is good for the economy and it is our duty to by shit loads of sweets and fireworks .

We love Halloween, always decorate the outside of the house and buy in loads of sweets, it's usually a big deal round here with loads of houses making an effort and a constant stream of kids knocking.

We arent planning for anything this year which is really disappointing, I just don't think it's going to happen.

Also sad as I think things like the school Halloween and Xmas parties will be cancelled too and Santa's grotto visits

No trick or treat this year. We will get little one dressed up and go to both sets of parents and only knock on their doors this year and they'll only answer to us. Bonfire night, I'll get some sparklers for the garden and buy a firework cake and take it up to my in-laws very large garden and light it.

I'm hoping there will be some kind of trick or treat this year but hopefully with something like a bowl of sweets on the doorstep that children can help themselves to so can be done in a socially distanced way.

Wrapped up sweets can be wiped down before they are eaten.

I hope trick or treating continues, mine are too old now but we still enjoy decorating the house and welcoming all the trick or treaters. It's very sociable round here.

Our local displays have been cancelled, as have the illuminated carnivals. It's such a shame but they draw huge crowds.
No Christmas markets, no shopping or theatre trips to London. It's going to be a long, boring Autumn/Winter.

Yes, I hadn't given it a thought till reading this thread, leave it to nearer the time, we have no idea what the situation will be. I am sad about no fireworks display, no Carol concerts, no Christmas markets though.

It's my dd's birthday on Halloween. He loves trick or treating but we've already started preparing him for it not happening. We might try and arrange with just a few houses we know so the dc can all go round and knock on. Depending how school goes I'm thinking we'll end up having a small halloween party for him with his friends from school.

Quite apart from the fact I never open the door to trick or treaters, a decision I justify even more after a parent of a child of about 5 called me a cunt through my letterbox, fireworks should IMO be banned, and in fact this would be an excellent time for the supermarkets to collaborate to do so. And most of the dodgy ones are imported from the Far East so in the current climate it wouldn’t be hard to prevent those as well.

People like to have things to look forward to, especially now. I'm thinking of Christmas too, getting my family presents now and putting some food and drink by. I always do, to spread the cost, but this year it feels more necessary.

I agree with the banning of fireworks for home use, it's not fair on animals, they seem to be relentless for weeks.

Oh yes alternative! Many of us start to look even as far as Xmas at this time of year I purchased my first 2 small gifts on Sunday.

Dd bday is over October half term and part of it is Halloween. She loves it. I too have started to prepare her for it not happening.
I may try and combine a Halloween themed bday party with her school bubble friends instead.

It would be great to leave bowls of sweets outside but even then it's hands grabbing in isn't it. Opening and answering the door... Without masks...

I think it could be done if everyone wore masks... But its the touching if the sweets.

To those that hate Halloween due to knockers.... On my very first time, I am ashamed to say I was with people who knocked at houses clearly not participating. I didn't know. They always did.

I think those that want to welcome trick or treaters will still decorate their houses and those who want to will knock. It might be lower key than usual but opening the door to someone/standing on someone's doorstep is no different to getting deliveries really.

I'm sure trick-or-treat will happen as usual here, with costumes ensuring the masks cover nose and mouth! Kids go to decorated houses only, and by the time we've been round the block their buckets are full and we go home. Love it.

I wouldn't object to restrictions on buying fireworks online, though.

Part of the reason I love autumn is all the fun things to do - Halloween, bonfire night and then the lead up to Christmas so I'm sad about this things just not being as they were. We always trick or treat but i think this year will be a "scary" movie with treats at home. Hopefully we will still manage our visit to the local pumpkin farm, and put a bowl of sweets on the front step and turn the doorbell off (we always do this anyway as the constant doorbell just upsets the dog).
I'm very anti home fireworks as well, but we might get some sparklers for the evening and a fire pit and toast some marshmallows instead on November 5th. Maybe our village can do a guy fawkes train instead where you make a guy and leave him out the front for passers by to see. Try and get back some community spirit

I'll wait to see if others in the village are going to do the ToTing, hopefully it will go ahead, my two love it. We always do fireworks but only on Nov 5th. I don't think Firework Night should stretch over days and days like it does.

I enjoy Halloween but imagine it won’t go ahead this year, case numbers are already rising and local lockdowns happening and it’s still summer so many not socialising indoors yet and schools are closed.

Can’t really hand sweets out from 2m away and a bowl left out means many hands.
