Anyone doing keto diet want to share food ideas and keep each other going?

I've just started today, had plenty Spinach, cheese, chicken. Finding it quite filling so far and hopefully sustainable!!
Not wanting to loose a massive amount of weight just de-bloat and feel more energised really. Im a terrible sweet treat snacker! And I always get an afternoon dip when I end up making a coffee and having biscuits or cake to give me a boost! Was desperately needing a diet change
Would be interested to hear any good meal ideas if anyone else is doing it

I've been doing it for a few weeks and love it. No massive weight loss so far but that isn't my main goal.

Make sure you drink lots of water with electrolytes! And I like using ketostix to make sure I'm in ketosis.

Fave portable snacks: Cheesies popped cheese, Awfully Posh pork crackling (plain) and seaweed.

Breakfast - I like bacon (nitrate free for me) and eggs.

Lunch - goat's cheese salad

Dinner--left over roast pork, cauliflower rice and broccoli, with blackberries and natural yoghurt for pudding.

Enjoy!

A medium boiled egg, with a bit of butter, salt and pepper. Sounds basic but it’s actually delicious!

I also like the Atkins crispbreads (you can get them on Amazon) with cheese and a little bit of pickle.

For a sweet treat, a couple of strawberries dipped in dark chocolate (or ganache made from cream and dark chocolate) makes a lovely snack. I also made a cake using 3 ingredients - dark chocolate, butter and eggs, which was surprisingly successful - bit like a soufflé when warm, or a chocolate truffle when cold.

Oh, I also love this microwave keto 'bread' - sort of crumpetish really

3 tbsp almond flour
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg

Mix, microwave for 90 seconds on full. Yum.

Ill try that. The keto bread i made was six rolls. If i do it again ill get 7 out of the mix as they were so filling

@LirBan my recipe is one serving, really, I just make it as I fancy it. Not sure how it would be cold as I always scarf it down!

Sainsbury’s have THE most amazing cheese crisps with truffle.
10 cal jellies are my go to sweet snack.

My favourite bit of advice is: KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid. So instead of making elaborate meals with tons of faux carbs etc, I just have protein, fat and veg at most meals.

Not to say I don’t love chaffles (google the recipe - v good!) with keto syrup sometimes, I just find it so much easier to stick to when my meals are simple and easy to chuck together.

@TenCornMaidens do you still show a decent reading of ketones with the Keto stix if you drink lots of water? I drink around 3 litres of water and I feel like I’m in Ketosis as I can tell from my breath but I never show like I’m anything above trace on the sticks and I heard it’s because drinking lots dilutes the ketones in your urine.

Im the sam to begin with the sticks were purple but now they dont show any reaction even when i know ive been under 20 net carbs.
Does your body stop eliminating ketones in yr urine after being in ketosis a while?

Where’s everyone getting their almond flour from? I looked in Holland and Barrett and recoiled in shock but amazon is no better price wise!

The doctors I listen to (LowCarbMD podcast) suggest that chasing ketones isn’t necessary so I’ve never tested. I can’t imagine I’m not in Ketosis though as I eat low carb and fast for around 18 hours every day.

Just use ground almonds, and if you want it finer whizz it in the blender for a few seconds.

Lidl/Aldi are the cheapest!

Portobello mushrooms stuffed with spinach (precook this in a pan with some garlic and a bit of butter) and feta. I brush some olive oil on the bottom of the mushroom to stop it going wrinkled in the oven.

2 poached eggs with asparagus for dipping in the yolks. I prefer fine asparagus and a brush a bit of melted butter on it first.

I got a tiny bag in tesco, sowans almond flour, 300g if that and it was about 8 euro.

So one of the keto youtubers i follow recommended kirlands almond flour and i bought a bag of that. 1.3 kilo, not cheap though. It is about 18 times as expensive as plain flour 😦

@justanotherneighinparadise same here, I don’t eat until lunchtime at least so fasting for a good 15 hours.

Second portobello mushrooms. I chop up garlic and spring onion and mix together. Then add little knobs of blue cheese and then add grated mozzarella. Yum!

I also absolutely love roasted cauliflower. I make a cheese sauce for it by adding double cream and Parmesan.

Roasting radishes drizzled in olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper are delish.

Snack wise I get through loads of packs of M&S Pork Cracking straws. They’re really pricey at over £2 per pack but they’re much nicer than pork scratchings, which I find really coat my mouth.

I've been keto a good few years and have never done the whole keto bread / desserts thing.

I eat low carb no junk.

My eating varies but today I have been hungry (cycle related) and have had scrambled eggs with cheese for brunch, then keto pie for dinner (basically this but without the hot dog sausages and with a load of veg.

I eat a lot of eggs.

And cheesy cauliflower rice with any sort of fatty meat.

And salads with tuna/ goats cheese/ egg / chicken/ all of the above

I love keto, it really is a life changer so wish you all the best.

We decided to buy bread as it was the one thing DP missed. It works out at 0.9g carbs fat per slice and from memory 33 cals. I’m not fussed about it so it’s just his. The great thing about having sliced bread in the freezer as I can do s small sandwich for him to go with his antipasti lunch. I can also blitz it for breadcrumbs and if I need to do something quick poached egg on toast is perfect.

I didn't do bread for the first few months but I have eaten so much meat, I feel sick. I can eat a bit less meat when I have a keto bread roll with cheese for my first meal of the day. Late breakfast.

I've bought the sticks, do you do them at a certain day each day? I think your body is already in ketosis after night anyway is it not? Would evening be better to do them?
